Bethesda and Arkane’s Xbox-exclusive co-op shooter Redfall has reportedly planned to release the game by May 2023.
The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, made some bold statements about how Xbox-exclusive games have been lacking lately, especially with the Halo Infinite delays and the delayed release of Starfield and Redfall. However, it seems like the latter game may finally have a planned release date. Sources have said that if the development was on track, Redfall could be released around the first month of May 2023.
It was around last May in 2022 that Bethesda and Arkane announced Redfall and Starfield would be pushed back a year. Both titles were supposed to be made for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Bethesda’s studio director Harvey Smith stated how “Redfall is our effort to take what Arkane does well, a hybrid of first-person games and RPGs, and stretch ourselves a little bit” when talking about the title expected to be coming out soon.
Redfall was said to be a nice balance or mashup of the best elements in open-world RPG and FPS games. It can be played solo or with a team of up to four players in co-op. The premise of the game would see players killing and slaying armies of vampires in a secluded, small island town of Redfall, Massachusetts from the rest of the world. It has given me a Midnight Mass vibe, but where the humans actually have a fighting chance. Is that a spoiler? Well, you should have watched the show by now!
The last video preview of the game came out about four months ago at QuakeCon from Arkane Austin. The 20-minute video featured some development insights from the studio’s team members, including Smith, creative director Ricardo Bare, art director Karen Segars and lead producer Aaron Carter.
They shared some of their thoughts and questions on creating Redfall, “Does this work in the open world? Does it work both solo and with co-op players? Can we take all our narrative layers and our improvisational mechanics and our style and spread that out across an open world?”
“The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them. We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating,” they continued to comment.
Windows Central was one of the first to pick up on the May 2023 potential release for Redfall, but the game’s development team has yet to confirm. What is certain is that both games will be coming out this year, finally!
Delays have detrimentally affected games like No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 and Halo Infinite, most recently. However, fans slowly warmed up to the games as the development teams spent more time fixing the game and adding more content. Hopefully, Redfall comes out swinging and can really give Xbox and PC fans something new and exciting.
