XDefiant Sadly Delayed 'Indefinitely' By Ubisoft

The first-person free-to-play shooter, XDefiant, has now been delayed indefinitely by Ubisoft.

Back in July, XDefiant underwent a quality test from 1st party launchers (Xbox, PlayStation, etc). After it failed to pass, Ubisoft released an update on development that explained how they were going to move forward. Developers at the time claimed if it had passed, the title would have been playable by the end of August.

In the official release, Ubisoft detailed their plans to do another resubmission of XDefiant in the second half of September, in which Executive Producer Mark Rubin stated, “If that Passes cleanly, then we could be looking at a mid-to-end of September release. There is however a likely scenario where we get a conditional Pass, meaning we have to do a Day 1 patch with some final fixes to ensure compliance.” Today, the development team released a statement from their official X (formerly Twitter) account regarding the future of its development, which can be seen below.

The delay happened after XDefiant deployed their public test session, which “surfaced some inconsistencies in the game” that the development team has to work on before they launch their Preseason. Their ultimate goal is to deliver a “best-in-class” arcade shooter without the plaguing inconsistencies.

After the development team corrects these inconsistencies, they can resubmit the certification for 1st party platforms again. There is a caveat, though: the resubmission can get a ‘conditional pass’ where developers will have to release a day-one patch to ensure compliance with the launch platforms. All-in-all, the troubled development of XDefiant now no longer has a timeline of development, as the developers have delayed the Preseason launch with no timetable on when it will deploy.

While there is no timeframe for the XDefiant preseason, Ubisoft’s other heavily delayed title, Skull and Bones, has been delayed for years with no end in sight despite the announced release dates of the title. Ubisoft could be refraining from putting out a concrete release date to avoid what has happened with the anticipated pirate ship simulator. Fans can head over to the official XDefiant development post for the latest detailed update on development.
