Showtime has released the first trailer for Season 2 of Yellowjackets, the mystery-thriller about a high school girls’ soccer team that ends up stranded in the wilderness.
Yellowjackets is easily one of the breakout TV shows of the last few years, thanks in part to its fascinating blend of psychological thriller and teen horror.
The trailer for Season 2 doesn’t give a lot of story details, mostly focusing on setting up the general vibe and feel of the show. However, we are introduced to a brand new character named Walter, a citizen detective played by Elijah Wood (best known for his role as Frodo in The Lord of the Rings). Walter seems to play a large role in the new season, as we see him tell someone, “Kidnapping, cults, death … your friendships are a little more complicated than most.”
The first season of Yellowjackets jumped back and forth between two timelines. One timeline is set in the ’90s and follows the story of a team of soccer players from New Jersey High School, showing the lengths they go to when they’re stranded in the Canadian wilderness. The second timeline follows the girls as adults, showing how they’re still grappling with the awful truth of what they’d done.
Season 2 will seemingly continue to jump back and forth between the two timelines, which is great, considering we still know very little about what really happened to the girls back in the ’90s.
The first Season of Yellowjackets received seven Emmy nominations and became Showtime’s second most-streamed series in its history. Elijah Wood joins the returning cast members that, include Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress. Season 2 will introduce a number of new characters played by the likes of Lauren Ambrose, Simone Kessel, Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and more.
Season 2 of Yellowjackets premieres on March 24 on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime subscribers. Following that, the season will make its on-air debut on March 26 at 9 pm ET.
