DJI Power 1000 Mini

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The DJI Power 1000 Mini is the latest iteration of the Power 1000 series Portable Power Station. Designed and constructed as a lower-power, more efficient variant of the popular Power 1000 series, the Power 1000 Mini features an impressive 1008Wh battery offering similar runtimes to its predecessor but in a compact form factor. With Wi-Fi connectivity for easy app access to features and settings, a built-in LED light, and a carry handle, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is more than meets the eye.

Measuring 314 x 212 x 216 mm (LxWxH) and weighing 11.5kg, the Power 1000 mini is compact, coming in just under BLUETTI’s Elite 100 V2, which has similar dimensions and battery capacity. When compared to the Power 1000, however, the new Mini earns its name, weighing 2 kg less than its predecessor while still offering a similar battery capacity; the Power 1000 contains a 1024 Wh capacity, while the Power Mini’s is 1008 Wh.

Despite its smaller footprint (the Power 1000 measures 448 x 225 x 230 mm), the Power 1000 Mini still manages to host an impressive number of ports for powering multiple devices. Four AC output ports adorn the left side of the unit, with an on/off switch controlling power output to the ports. Moving across the unit, a single retractable USB-C cable (100W output) sits at the top of a series of ports, including an additional USB-C with 100W output and two USB-A with 12W output.

“The Power 1000 Mini still manages to host an impressive number of ports for powering multiple devices.”

Below this is a single input/output SDC (software-defined charger) port that enables quick charging of supported DJI drone batteries, as well as charging the power station via a solar panel or car adaptor. Finally, below all of this is the AC in port, which supports fast charging of the unit. In testing, I was able to charge the unit from 0-100% in just over an hour, which is in line with the manual’s 75-minute charge time.

While charging, the unit actively cools, so the fans can be heard during charging. I had a similar experience with the DJI Power 2000, though the Power 1000 Mini is notably quieter during charging. Overall, the charging times for the Power 1000 Mini via the AC port are great, providing quick power delivery when heading out on a trip. I found this exceptionally useful last week when I needed to make an unplanned trek across the country. I was able to quickly charge the Power 1000 Mini from 60% to full in the time it took me to pack up the SUV.

The other notable design element is the built-in grip. The latter is something I’ve seen become the norm for portable power stations over this last generation, with the DJI Power 2000, BLUETTI Elite 100 v2 and the BLUETTI Elite 30 v2 all including them in casing. This moulded handle is present on the Power 1000 Mini and is a welcome design choice considering its 11.5kg weight.

“The DJI Power 1000 Mini is an excellent Portable Power Station.”

If I could make one change to its design, I would sacrifice a bit of its compact design to include a second handle. While 11.5kg is a manageable weight, it would be nice to carry the unit with both hands for any length of time. This is by no means a critique of the design, but rather a wish list item for the next iteration of the Mini lineup.

Most impressive, though, is how efficient the Power 1000 Mini is. For my testing purposes, I ran four laptops from the unit and switched to USB-C tablets, and I was able to easily get about three workdays out of the Power 1000 Mini. It is worth noting that during those three days of use, the laptops were not in use at times. Regardless, after three days, I still had battery capacity left.

In the aforementioned trip, I ran the unit for a week, with two 15-hour drives thrown in, during which the Power 1000 Mini charged multiple devices every day and, after returning home, still found 35% left in the battery. It’s an impressive piece of tech and speaks to DJI’s pedigree as a leading battery producer for their many devices. Throw in the fact that the Power 1000 Mini can be used as a UPS thanks to its 0.01-second power delivery, and this unit becomes a powerful tool for your tech toolbox.

The DJI Power 1000 Mini is an excellent Portable Power Station. It delivers impressive power despite its compact footprint. Coupled with the features I’ve come to expect from the brand and its impressive efficiency, there is a lot to like about this portable power station. If you are looking for a great balance between power and portability, the DJI Power 1000 Mini is an excellent choice.
