Gunnar Assassin’s Creed Mirage Intercept

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

As someone who frequently experiences eye strain and headaches due to prolonged screen time, I was intrigued when GUNNAR approached me to review their latest product: the Assassin’s Creed Mirage Intercept Glasses. These glasses are specifically designed to filter out blue light and alleviate eye fatigue. Given GUNNAR’s reputation as a leading brand in reducing eye strain and the glasses’ understated design, I was eager to test them out and see if they significantly improved my comfort during my day-to-day routine.

At first glance, these glasses make a strong statement. The sleek, lightweight frames feature an indigo and orange pattern printed along the arms and temples inspired by the warm, sandy hues of ancient Baghdad featured in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Despite the flashy Assassin’s Creed branding and style that usually comes in tow, the overall look maintains a subtle and sophisticated feel suitable for both gaming marathons on the couch or long days working at a computer in the office.

Even though I am not usually a fan of plastic frames, comfort is also top-notch. Weighing in at just 33 grams, the Intercept Glasses feel barely there on your face. I often found myself forgetting I was even wearing them. The adjustable nose pads prevent slipping, while the curved temple tips eliminate pressure points behind the ears. I wore them for multiple hours at a time without any noticeable discomfort.

Of course, style and comfort aren’t the main reasons for investing in gaming glasses. The key question for me was whether they would make a difference when looking at screens. After several weeks of testing, I can confidently say yes, having a pair of blue light-filtering glasses is noticeable and, at the end of the day, helps my eyes feel a bit of a reprieve from what I would normally experience from constant screen time.

The GUNNAR Intercept Glasses use an amber tint lens to filter out 65% of blue light emitted from screens. For the uninitiated, blue light exposure can lead to digital eye strain and sleep issues over time. The glasses aim to reduce eye fatigue by blocking the most intense blue light wavelengths.

I tested the GUNNAR Assassin’s Creed Mirage Intercept while working long days on my computer, gaming on my Xbox Series X, binge-watching anime on Crunchyroll, and scrolling on my phone before bed. Across all activities, my eyes felt less tired compared to going screen-commando. I also noticed fewer instances of dry eyes, fewer headaches, and an easier time focusing on text. The difference was especially apparent during marathon writing sessions, where my eyes would usually be begging for mercy, but with the Intercept Glasses, I was able to push on for longer with no ill effects.

“The GUNNAR Assassin’s Creed Mirage Intercept Glasses are a fantastic accessory, reducing eye strain without compromising visual quality or comfort.”

The amber tint does take some adjustment, I will be honest. At first, colours appear slightly dulled and shifted towards red/orange hues. However, after a few days, my eyes adapted, and I no longer noticed the difference. The tint also cuts down on glare, making screens appear sharper with improved contrast. I will say for anyone who works with images or graphics that need precise colour, and the amber tint will distort things slightly, so they are not ideal in those use cases. There are options that are less tinted, but even still, I would avoid anything that could change hues if accuracy is important.

Beyond the obvious eye benefits, the Assassin’s Creed theming just looks fantastic, especially if you are a fan of the series. The included case and cleaning cloth featuring Assassin’s Creed Mirage branding round out the premium package and make it all come together nicely.

I will make one major note for people needing corrective lenses: the prescription lens inserts bump the price considerably compared to the base blue light filtering models. But for those like me who already wear glasses, having a pair tailored to your specific vision needs is well worth the added cost, in my opinion, and it is something I use when I am tired of wearing contacts. The clarity of vision and comfort certainly outweigh the sticker shock, especially if you find yourself in front of screens daily.

As someone who spends the majority of my waking hours staring at screens of some kind, the GUNNAR Assassin’s Creed Mirage Intercept Glasses are a fantastic accessory. They reduce eye strain without compromising visual quality or comfort. The subtle yet stylish design means I can wear them anywhere without drawing unnecessary attention. If you’re looking to upgrade your arsenal for long gaming sessions or workdays, these glasses are highly recommended.
