Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

Two years ago, NZXT released its first showing of peripherals. Now, they have shown what they have been cooking in the past year or two—really receiving all the feedback. Their hard work has come a long way, and the NZXT Lift series is back with a whole new look! Testing the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo mouse right out of the box, I plugged it in and jumped straight into a game of Valorant. The feeling of having something fit perfectly in the palm of my hand was transcending. I have been through a myriad of shapes and sizes of mice, but nothing was quite as perfect as the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo for my relatively large hands.

The NZXT Lift 2 Ergo specializes in having an ergonomic form factor which fits comfortably and naturally into the user’s hand. It is meant for a palm grip style, the more common grip style. The sides of the chassis contained some awesome no-slip grips, making it easier to hold for fast gameplay—whether that is in Apex Legends or League of Legends. The two buttons on the left side were slotted perfectly; I typically use it for pings or for push-to-talk comms. Like most modern mice, it also had a button on the middle top to change onboard memory DPI settings.

As someone who likes to cup the mouse with my whole hand, this was a perfect fit. The dimensions were 5.06 inches (length) x 2.56 (width) x 1.63 (height). I never felt any strain, even after hours of gaming. The weight of it was not bad either, coming in at 61g versus its predecessor at 67g. The 100% virgin PTFE skates were also silky smooth and had a good stopping feel for quick flick shots. There was no RGB lighting or any lighting like the first design in the series—but that is not a terrible sacrifice for the performance. The USB 2.0 paracord cable was almost invisible.

The customizability of settings is pretty adaptive and expansive, too. The NZXT Lift 2 Ergo is able to store 5 profiles onboard, with a polling rate of up to 8,000 Hz. This means the mouse is communicating clicks and movements every 0.125 milliseconds, whereas the original Lift only had a polling rate of 1,000 Hz). The elevated successor has optical switches that offer lightning-fast, consistent click response times—boasting a 100-million click life cycle. On the same topic of speed, it is also compatible with NVIDIA Reflex—which measures system latency when paired with NVIDIA G-SYNC displays.

It can even be set to 26,000 DPI for peak performance tracking. I tested my tracking skills in Steam’s Aimlabs, with a consistent improvement each time. For in-game performance, I did some tracking practice in Fortnite. For those into FPS games like Counter-Strike 2 or Rainbow Six Siege, you will have a good time with the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo.

While all of this would put a little more power drain on the CPU, it was not enough to say it was a nuisance or a hindrance. Also, the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo utilizes a PixArt PMW3395 sensor, with a max acceleration of 50g and a max speed of 650 IPS. All of this, combined with the ability to have a 1mm lift-off, creates a lot of space to do 180 flick shots easily!

In terms of software, NZXT CAM has received some overhaul. It was really easy to use and streamlined the menu for customizing other NZXT products. I thought it was fairly intuitive and had a good assortment of DPI settings and setting up macros that fit the user’s needs. The only really weird thing about the NZXT Lift 2 Ergo was that it had issues disconnecting off and on upon rebooting my PC. It did not happen every time, but it was a little annoying. It was not on my PC’s end because I tried other mice, and it was only happening with this one.

Other than that, this was a really solid mouse. It is simple, economical and does not try to do much. It was a safe bet on the style and its performance offerings. For its cost and performance value, this is a perfect mouse for someone who wants to squeeze the best specs for their money. It may not be the best as a mobile mouse with its paracord wire, but the high-quality functionality outweighed that.

The NZXT Lift 2 Ergo mouse is perfect for both gamers and professional settings because it does not have a vibrant, distracting design. There is nothing particularly special about it, but it truly lives up to being ergonomic. It seems like one of the most versatile mice I have used. It holds up for gaming even though its sibling, the Lift 2 Symm, is more streamlined for gaming along with the new NZXT Function 2 MiniTKL.
