Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Razer Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed are the latest in the long-running Hammerhead Gaming Earbud series. Built to provide impressive audio and battery life, the V3 Hyperspeed offer an impressive audio experience, easy-to-use touch controls and lossless-level wireless audio streaming. With an improved dual-purpose case, compact 2.4GHz dongle, and Bluetooth 6.0, the Razer Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed offers a refined earbud audio experience.

Following in the path of what has come before, the Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed offer a similar overall design to previous models. In fact, compared to the previous generations of Pro Hyperspeed that were here in the office, they share striking similarities. The overall structure is similar, with the only notable difference being the physical size of the Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed, which is slightly smaller, though similar in weight, weighing 5.6g per earbud and 63g when in the included charging case.

It’s a simple matter of not fixing what isn’t broken, as the overall design is comfortable, with three earbud tip sizes to accommodate a wide range of users.  Along with the aforementioned earbuds, case, and additional earbud tips, the Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed also includes a compact 2.4GHz dongle that slots into the case, as well as a 16.5-inch USB-C cable for charging and communication.

“With an improved dual-purpose case, compact 2.4GHz dongle, and Bluetooth 6.0, the Razer Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed offers a refined earbud audio experience.”

Each earbud is equipped with touch controls built into the logo-crested faceplate, providing all major controls for the earbuds. The silicon earbud tips are soft and comfortable to wear even after ten hours of use, as discussed in more detail below. The case has a single USB-C port on the bottom and a multi-purpose button that displays battery level information and manages earbud pairing in Bluetooth mode.

In every design element, the V3 HyperSpeed is the Hammerhead design. The case and earbuds, for instance, feature a battery capacity increase over previous generations, with 10 hours of battery life per charge and an additional 30 hours in the case. In total, users should enjoy around 40 hours of play time before needing to charge the case. I’m impressed with the overall battery life as it’s one of the best I’ve experienced in earbuds. In testing, the earbuds had no issue achieving the 10 hours of battery life with ANC off.

Speaking of ANC, which is just one of a few notable features, the Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed offers solid noise cancellation. Presented as a Hybrid Active Noise cancellation system, the offered ANC is quite good, focusing on the 50-500Hz range, which is notoriously busy with external noise. System fans, traffic and HVAC system noise all land within these frequency bands.

After a week of testing, I can confirm that the Hybrid ANC Razer developed for the V3 HyperSpeed does an excellent job of isolating and blocking these external frequencies. I noted in testing that some higher frequencies, specifically higher-pitched vocals, sneak in a bit, but they are reduced and not noticeable when the audio is playing. Overall, I’m quite impressed with what Razer has done with the ANC system for the Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed.

Another feature of note is actually regarding the new case design. While externally it looks similar to others in the series, this iteration includes a slot for the 2.4GHz dongle and, if needed, can work together to serve as the 2.4GHz receiver, allowing for case charging and wireless transmission simultaneously. This reduces the need for multiple port availability and the risk of misplacing the dongle.

The Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed’s standout feature, though, is the THZ Spatial Audio experience. Ideal for high-end PC gaming, the 11mm drivers deliver absolutely incredible sound. In testing, I was impressed with the clarity of the audio experience, with every element of the soundscape clear, and when virtual 7.1 surround was engaged, accurately presented in proximity to the player. It’s a wonderfully immersive experience and may just have convinced me to use earbuds as my main gaming drivers for the foreseeable future.

“The Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed are an impressive pair of earbuds that absolutely work for gaming.”

The Bluetooth streaming experience is, likewise, wonderful. Thanks to Bluetooth 6.0, the Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed sound incredible when streaming lossless music or watching shows. In frequency tests, there was no notable noise, and the overall sound experience is impactful, full and well-rounded.

The Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed offer three preset audio profiles and a fourth Custom (though all can be customized). This can be managed, along with the rest of the settings for the V3 HyperSpeed, in Razer Synapse on Windows 10/11 or through the Razer Audio app on Android and iOS. Each app works well and provides all the settings needed to tailor the listening experience to your desired profile.

The Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed are an impressive pair of earbuds that absolutely work for gaming. The overall audio experience is excellent; the Hybrid ANC does a solid job of keeping the user immersed, and the battery life and comfort of the design work together to create a great pair of gaming earbuds. Priced at $129.99, the Hammerhead V3 HyperSpeed earbuds from Razer are worth their price point.
