The Razer Naga is a tried and tested mouse, loved by countless MMO players worldwide. It delivers a comfortable experience while providing enough buttons to make short work of even the most complex multiplayer RPG offering. Building on that foundation, while delivering a premium product, Razer has released the Razer Naga Pro, and if you are in the market for an MMO gaming mouse, there is little that comes close to what the Naga Pro has on offer.
The Razer Naga Pro feels like an imagination of all the advancements seen in Razer mice over the years all packed into one stylish package. Delivering a wired — or hyper-speed — wireless experience, the Naga Pro comes packed with optical switches, a 20,000 DPI sensor, and interchangeable side plates for $149.99 USD. While expensive, for anyone looking for these features, little comes even close to the features on offer. This range has always been one of our top choices from razer, as you can see from the Razer Naga review back in 2013, and the brand just keeps on improving on a good thing.
Design-wise, the Naga Pro feels very similar to what you would find on the standard Naga albeit a tad heavier at 117 grams. It offers two standard right and left buttons, a scroll wheel, buttons to adjust sensitivity, rubber side grips, and three different side panels. These are tailor-made for different styles of game, from FPS to MMO and RTS. It also comes with a soft braided cable, the options for Bluetooth or Razer’s dongle, and overall feels like a stylish and complete package.
After using a few of Razer’s most recent mice, I have to say I am a big fan of their optical-mechanical switches. They manage to offer a click that feels satisfying while being lighting fast. Razer claims these buttons are 0.2ms, and in twitch games like Doom, Fortnite, or League of Legends, you can feel the responsiveness. It is amazing that the hardware on offer can make reaction time feel almost instantaneous, and while it won’t make you a better player, it will make sure the mouse is not the thing stopping you from achieving greatness.
Before we go any further, it should be noted that the swappable faceplates are far more useful than I initially thought when first opening the package. These interchangeable offerings deliver a two, six, and 12-button layout that can be swapped in a matter of seconds. Thanks to the simple magnet design, these pop-off with ease while never feeling like you might lose one while using the mouse. The design also makes for a great place to stow away the USB dongle when not in use — and that is just clever.
While having access to myriad buttons on a mouse sounds silly, thanks to Razer Synapse and the ability to bind these buttons as needed, the Naga Pro is one of the more exciting offerings for gaming and for work. The ease of Synapse 3 makes even the more complex possibilities or macros a breeze, and with the settings being saved on the on-board memory of the Naga Pro, even while on the go your settings are ready and waiting once you plug the mouse in again.
For every gamer, the primary fear of wireless technology is the lag it could deliver, or having a pivotal moment be lost in the mirage of lag and a battery on its last legs. Thankfully, through some technical magic I will not pretend to understand, the Naga Pro does not face either of these dreaded issues. Razer boasts a 150-hour battery life for this mouse, and from my testing, I would have to believe them. Using the mouse daily for around two weeks now and I am not even at 40%. And even if I am near the end of the line, the included cable makes plugging the mouse in easy, ensuring you are never taken out of the game.
Combine that with Razer’s HyperSpeed Wireless technology and you have yourself a match made in heaven. Even a few years back I would never consider a wireless mouse for any sort of competitive online play, but I saw no discernible lag while testing the Naga Pro at all. It felt responsive, instantaneous, and dead-on even when the battery started to dip. I noticed no real difference with the Naga Pro’s wired or wireless experience, and that is a fantastic feeling.
With everything on offer, I should not be surprised by the new Razer Focus+ 20,000 DPI sensor, but somehow I was. The smoothness of the Naga Pro was fantastic, in work, and in gaming. Jumping from Fortnite to Photoshop, I saw how versatile the sensor can be, especially when demanding pixel-perfect precision. Combine that with the 100% PTFE feet, the Naga Pro felt smoother than many mice I have tested over the years.
With everything the Naga Pro has on offer, it is hard to find fault with it, but there are a few nit-picks that should be pointed out for a prospective buyer. Firstly, the price: at $150, this is not a cheap offering, this is very much a premium product. It is also potentially a bit too much in terms of features for some would-be buyers. There is a lot going on with the Naga Pro, and sometimes people do just want a mouse they can plug in and go.
At the end of the day, the Razer Naga Pro is a fantastic product and one that builds on the Naga legacy while doing it justice every step of the day. It is a pleasure to use and customize and feels fantastic in all types of games and work, thanks to a staggering amount of options on offer. While not a cheap mouse, if you are looking for an upgrade, and love what the Naga range has to offer, you can’t go wrong bringing the Naga Pro into your gaming setup.
