Earlier today, we reported on a variety of leaks that suggested Overwatch would receive a Halloween update this afternoon. This turned out to be the case. Earlier today, Blizzard officially unveiled a new seasonal event, entitled "Overwatch Halloween Terror." The event launched simultaneously for PC and consoles, meaning all Overwatch players are open to play Halloween Terror as soon as their game updates.
Halloween Terror runs from Oct 11th all the way to Nov 1st. "Explore the haunted streets of Hollywood, expand your collection of themed holiday items, and relive a chilling tale in our first-ever PvE brawl: Junkenstein's Revenge!" the official page announces.
According to Blizzard, the Halloween event brings a variety of new features and goodies for players to enjoy. For one, Loot Boxes are now jack-o'-lanterns, and they feature over 100 new Halloween-inspired items to pick up: from icons to emotes, sprays to skins. Every Loot Box earned includes at least one item from the Halloween collection, which is pretty neat as a collectible incentive. Plus, unlike Team Fortress 2's Halloween skins, you can use Overwatch's Halloween items any time.
As we reported on earlier, there's also the Junkenstein's Revenge event. As Overwatch's "first-ever co-op PvE Brawl," four players can get together to face Dr. Junkenstein, his Monster, Reaper and a variety of zombie omnics called zomnics. Players are tasked with defending Adlersbrunn's castle as the zomnics rage on. Hero selection is limited in this game though, as players can only choose from Ana, Hanzo, McCree, or Soldier: 76 during play.
All things considered, Overwatch's Halloween vent is quite impressive. Although Sombra remains missing from the battlefield, it seems likely she'll make an appearance in the Overwatch roster shortly. Keep an eye out for later today as we draft up our first impressions with the Halloween Terror event, exploring its new features and how the zomnic mode plays.
