Sumo Digital Takes Over Development of Dead Island 2

Sumo Digital Takes Over Development of Dead Island 2

Making a splash when it was first announced, Dead Island 2 has since that point had a few problems. Originally slated to be developed by Yager, the Studio behind Spec Ops: The Line, they later called off the working relationship due to “Yager and Deep Silver’s respective visions of the project fell out of alignment”

It was reported by MCVUK today that Sumo Digital the studio behind LittleBigPlanet 3 will be taking over the project. In a statement made to MCVUK och Media CEO Dr Klemens Kundratitz explained that “Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent, vision that was aligned with our own,”

Sumo Digital have worked with many third parties and first party publishers working on titles such as Disney InfinityForza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious, and Crackdown 3. With a strong pedigree behind them, and a unique resume, it will be interesting to see where they take the Dead Island franchise, and if it will retain anything from the original concept shown off at E3 2014.

It may be too early in the process to expect anything from this relationship to show up at E3, but hopefully we will see more of the concept Deep Silver and Sumo Digital have in mind before the year is out.
