Final Fantasy XV‘s delay from September 30th to November 29th stings, to be sure, but a silver lining has emerged for early adopters of the upcoming Playstation 4 Pro console. It was confirmed at Tokyo Game Show this weekend that the developers of Final Fantasy XV are working to optimize the game for the PS4 Pro. It is said to run at a higher resolution and a smoother framerate, and will take advantage of the more vivid color palette only possible with HDR.
You can catch a glimpse of the game running on the PS4 Pro below, but keep in mind that this is off-camera footage, so it’s tough to gauge how it will look on a 4K TV.
Meanwhile, at the same Active Time Report stage event, Square Enix announced a second mobile spin-off title set within the Final Fantasy XV universe (the first being Justice Monsters V, a free-to-play pinball hybrid game). This new game, King’s Knight: Wrath of the Dark Dragon, is a re-imagining of a Square-published NES game of the same name that released way back in 1986.
King’s Knight: Wrath of the Dark Dragon is an action RPG with sequences that resemble the arcade-style, vertically-scrolling shooters of old. The player assembles a party of four heroes and uses their unique strengths to fight hordes of vicious foes. The game’s announcement trailer, located just below, runs through its basic premise and cast of characters.
King’s Knight: Wrath of the Dark Dragon will release for Android and iOS sometime in 2016. Amusingly, Noctis and his friends can be seen playing the game on their own phones within Final Fantasy XV. If you don’t have a smartphone (however unlikely that may be), you can obtain the game via DLC to play within Final Fantasy XV proper.
Square Enix also released the fifth episode of Brotherhood, the Final Fantasy XV anime mini-series. This episode wraps up the conflict introduced in episode 1 and sheds a little more light on Noctis’ childhood.
