Eve Online’s Chinese servers will be shifting publishers, CCP Games, the studio behind the popular sci-fi MMO, announced that all publishing duties will now be under NetEase, beginning in October.
EVE Online allows players to explore the vastness of space in one massive server called Tranquillity, that is, for everyone, except China — Chinese players of EVE, have access to their very own server, called Serenity (probably not referencing a certain television show).
Vice President of NetEase had this to say, “We’re excited to be working together to advance the game experience of all Eve enthusiasts in China.”
CCP CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson also released a statement regarding the shift, “CCP and NetEase share a common goal of commitment to quality and service,” before adding, “We know that EVE Online fans in China are passionate about their gameplay, and our unified goal is the least amount of interruption to their gaming journey during EVE Online‘s transition to the new publisher in this market.“
For those unfamiliar with NetEase, the China-based company has the honour of being the biggest games publisher in the world — with big names like Blizzard, Activision under their belt.
CPP and NetEase are also planning on bringing to market a new title set in the EVE Online universe, known as EVE: Project Galaxy, which will be brand-new MMO title made specifically for mobile platforms, with a focus on augmented reality.
