Todd Shallbetter, the former COO of Atari is changing lanes and joining a medical gaming company known as Level Ex.

Shallbetter joins the company as the Senior Vice President, Technology Partnerships and brings with him over 14 years of industry experience working for Atari. In his new position, Shallbetter will be in charge of working with global technology companies and providers in order to build partnerships involving virtual and augmented reality. Shallbetter says that he has been impressed with Level Ex for a while and that he is excited for this next step in his career.

“I had been following Level Ex closely, so when the opportunity came up to work for them, it was a resounding yes. The caliber of the team is incredible, with standout executives and game developers. They make fun video games to improve physician performance, turning entertainment into a credible tool for learning in ways nobody else has done before. I’m thrilled to push this important mission into new markets.”

Level Ex primarily makes simulation games for doctors, which are available to them for free on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Their titles are used by over 350,000 health care practitioners and cover topics including diseases, rare and challenging cases, new medical devices, and drug therapies that help them stay sharp in their fields of practice. The company’s CEO Sam Glassenberg says that Shallbetter brings a lot of industry expertise to Level Ex.

“With his broad relationships across the video games industry, Todd is exceedingly qualified to identify best-in-class game technologies and help Level Ex unleash them onto the field of medicine. Level Ex has consistently attracted top talent from the games industry across a range of disciplines: art, production, game design, and development. With Todd joining, that roster expands to include business and operations leadership.”

During his tenure with Atari, he helped expand the company’s brand reach to 160 countries and grew Atari’s user base by over 10 million. Before working for Atari, Shallbetter worked as a tour manager for entertainers such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tina Turner and the Harlem Globetrotters.
