Death Stranding, Gear of War 5, and More Lead to Exciting  Gamescom 2019 Opening Ceremony 2

Gamescom 2019 has officially begun, and it showed itself in with an opening ceremony full of new information and world premieres.

Following the “Horde” mode trailer and “Halo: Reach Character Pack” downloadable content announcement earlier today, publisher Microsoft and developer The Coalition debuted the Campaign story trailer for Gears 5. The game’s out September 10th.

After that, we saw the world premiere of the team-based online helicopter game Comanche. This marks the return of an old franchise from THQ Nordic and Nukklear. There will be an alpha and a beta in Q4 of this year, and an “Early Access” program will launch in early 2020.

DCL: The Game is the official video game of Drone Champions League, coming from THQ Nordic and developer Climax Studios for PC and consoles 2020.

Need For Speed: Heat then got a gameplay reveal trailer. Cops return in the open world during the day, while at night you take to the streets for some illegal racing. Just don’t get busted. Car customization returns, and if you want to get in on it now, you can download the Need for Speed Heat Studio app today. When the game launches, you can push your designs to the full game.

Thereafter, the world bore witness to the majestic CG glory of Kerbal Space Program 2. It’s coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.

And after that, Tarsier Studios and Bandai Namco unveiled Little Nightmares 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, featuring a new protagonist, combat and more coming on all platforms 2020.

Predator: Hunting Grounds then received its first gameplay. The game will be out 2020 from Illfonic, who also made the recent Friday the 13th game. Four players assume the role of a fireteam looking to complete their mission, while one hunts them as the Predator.

After that, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne received a trailer for its primary monster Velkhana. The expansion will be out in a few weeks on September 6th.

The Cycle is a PvPvE futuristic shooter on an alien planet from YAGER. It’s in early access today, free for anyone to try on the Epic Games store.

Life Is Strange 2: Episode 4 got a trailer. It comes out next week on August 22nd.

Next, Sega and Amplitude premiered Humankind, a historical turn-based strategy game where you can reimagine the whole history of humankind. It will launch via Steam in 2020.

2K Games and developer Gearbox Software revealed two endgame Borderlands 3 modes, “Proving Grounds” and the returning “Circle of Slaughter”. You’ll get more loot by doing better and completing more objectives, encouraging replayability. The game is out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 13th, with a Stadia launch planned.

Rockfish Games then presented Everspace 2, releasing 2021 for Steam, PS4, and Xbox One, after spending some time in Early Access in 2020. The game will be replacing the roguelike elements of its predecessor with open-world gameplay and persistent progression.

The Witcher 3’s Switch port got a trailer at this point. It and its severely undercranked performance will be dropping on October 15th.

After that, FIFA 20 received its Volta story gameplay premiere. You can travel around the world with your team to 17 locations across 5 continents. The game will be out on all platforms on September 24th.

The next game was Disintegration, from the co-creator of Halo. V-1 Interactive, a small team of 30 people in Seattle, will be bringing this tactical shooter to us some time in 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, complete with a campaign and multiplayer.

Darksiders Genesis received a trailer, and will release on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia later this year.

Also on Stadia is the launch exclusive GYLT. This is Tequilaworks children’s horror game. You play as Sally, looking for her sister Emily in a nightmare world. It will launch alongside Stadia this November.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will be launching October 1st. Cross-save and a new season of Undying will be joining it.

Featured next was Darril Arts’ and Stormind Games’ Remothered: Broken Porcelain. It’s coming for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in summer 2020, and is available to wishlist on Steam.

Magic the Gathering: Arena was revealed to be coming to the Epic Games store this Winter. It was also reiterated that there will be a free game every week in 2019.

The interactive live-action thriller Erica is out now on PlayStation 4.

After that, Ubisoft showed us a trailer covering the upcoming DLC for Anno 1800. Botanical Gardens is coming on September 10th, and The Passage is coming this winter. Day and night cycle will also be arriving September 10th in free update. The game is currently free on Uplay until August 25th.

Publisher Kalypso Media and developer Gaming Minds Studios announced Port Royale 4 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. It will launch in 2020.

Iron Harvest will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and more on September 1st, 2020, publisher Deep Silver and developer King Art Games announced.

Next up, Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was announced to have an open 2v2 early alpha available on PlayStation Network this Friday.

Finally, Hideo Kojima appeared onstage for Death Stranding. Several trailers were played, starting with one for the enigmatic Mama, locked in one location due to a connection with her dead child. There was also a trailer for the holographic Deadman (played by Guillermo del Toro) and the bridge baby. Finally, a gameplay trailer was unveiled, showing that one of your delivery targets would be show host Geoff Keighly himself, voiced by Matt Mercer. The game will be out on November 8th on PS4, and we’re dying to see more.
