Promenade

Summary

Promenade is a fun experience that combines visual creation, collaboration in public space and auditory discovery. Designed as part of the “Ludify the city” hackathon of the Quartier des Specatcles de Montréal, Promenade invites passers-by to have fun with elements generally reserved for signage and road restrictions. Interactive and illuminated terminals – which are reminiscent of pedestrian terminals – take place on the Promenade des artistes, as well as in selected places in the Quartier des Spectacles (and why not, elsewhere in the city of Montreal?!). Each of them has a surprise: it lights up, yes!, but that’s not all. Stay attentive to your environment, each terminal also modifies the street furniture. Imagine, for example, choosing the color of the lighting in Émilie-Gamelin Park simply by sitting on a bench. In addition, all the terminals, when you touch them, broadcast live Radio-Canada radio channels. Shop around to see which ones are offering music, current news, and more. You could even (re)live the past by intercepting otherwise inaccessible archive content! The main installation is a real free-for-all. The terminals are designed to be inviting and accessible to as many people as possible. – Intuitive and easy-to-grasp controls. – Mechanics that engage even the most introverted. – The light projections will please the eyes and the live broadcasts of Radio-Canada will delight your ears. The most curious will observe that the secondary terminals mark in fact the path to the big game! –The gameFireflies travel in the space of the Artists’ Promenade, tint them with your favorite colors!Activate a terminal to project its color into the place. If the firefly crosses it, watch it transform before your eyes. At the end of its journey, see how it will have diffused its colored light into the environment: street lamps, columns and even the sidewalk take on its color. You may notice that the fireflies already have a color. It’s their preference. Make him happy to create a grandiose spectacle. Share your impressions with everyone in attendance! The terminals are listening to you and broadcast your most beautiful words straight from the projection. A few different interactions – Touch a terminal to activate its color – If two adjacent terminals are activated at the same time, watch an intermediate color light up and rise towards the sky.- If several people touch the same terminal, the intensity of the audio volume increases. The atmosphere is much better when we come together.–Respect for constraintsQuartier des Spectacles- A game for everyone which takes place in an accessible fun installation, easy to learn.- On the one hand, a luminous creative experience to personalize the Lumina firefly and the urban environment in which we find ourselves. On the other hand, a game of color and precision, with a non-restrictive objective, for those who want a little more challenge.- Discover new places in the city in your search for terminals. – Put away your cell phones, look up! You play with the city and with the people around you.
UQAM- The Promenade des artistes is already brightened up with a projection. Pedestrians and motorists observe it when they pass by. The Promenade game gives you new reasons to go there and stay there.
Radio-Canada- All audio content comes from Radio-Canada radio channels. The perfect opportunity to hear content that is normally little or not accessible to the population: archive content, but also localized channels from other cities across the country. – All the sounds heard in the prototype come from the content of Radio-Canada awaiting access to APIs, as discussed with the representative.
IBM- Watson, IBM’s Speech to text Bluemix tool, records your impressions and broadcasts them locally.- A filter allows you to select the best words and display directly in the game projection, but also on the screens of the Place des Arts, the city’s bus shelters. Your voice echoes throughout the city. Watson will even be able to tell us what the city’s emotion is like day after day thanks to the Tone Analyzer tool. –The teamVéronique BouffardUgo CloutierJamie Dorval CayaElaine GusellaJean-François MorinMyriam Noël-Martel
–All game, art, animation, programming, installation, lights and technology content were designed by the team during the hackathon, with the exception of content from partners that are part of the constraints (radio-Canada audio and IBM Bluemix SDK).
