The Razer Iskur V2 Gaming Chair Puts Diversity at the Forefront of Its Design

Razer is the brand everyone knows when it comes to gaming peripherals. With their new Razer Iskur V2, they have broken the mould of what you can expect from a gaming chair. The company has paid close attention to their buyers and noticed a gap in chairs dedicated to gamers. Oftentimes, these gaming chairs are built with men in mind.

As we went over in our Gaming Chairs for Women series, many of these chairs on the market are not a one-size-fits-all situation. Whether it’s a need for height adjustment, a wider seat base, or a headrest that actually fits, most gaming chairs struggle to find a happy medium that will work for everyone. CGMagazine spoke with Product Evangelist on the Razer Iskur V2 gaming chair, Vickki Aw, about their inclusive design and Razer’s dedication to commitment to diversity and inclusion.

What is the first thing that you want to make sure potential buyers know about the Razer Iskur V2?

Vickki Aw: At Razer, we strive to provide gamers with the best possible equipment for their needs. With the addition of the Razer Fujin line, launched at RazerCon 2023, and the Iskur V2 launched at CES, we now have three very distinct chair lines targeted at different gamer demands.  The Iskur V2 represents the latest evolution of our commitment to ergonomics and support, featuring the world’s first 6D lumbar system for fully customizable comfort. This innovative design caters to a wide range of gamers, ensuring they perform their best during extended gaming sessions.

What improvements have been made since the original Iskur

Vickki Aw: The Iskur V2 builds upon the success of its predecessor with several key enhancements, the biggest one being the lumbar. With six different dimensions of adjustment, Iskur V2 allows you to choose the protrusion, height, and even the angle of your preferred support.

Do you think that women are overlooked when it comes to gaming and office chairs?

Vickki Aw: We believe that gaming is for everyone, and it’s crucial that all gamers, including women, have access to equipment that meets their needs. Historically, the gaming industry has not always fully considered the diverse demographics of its community in product design. We’re committed to ensuring that our products cater to a wide range of gamers, promoting inclusivity and comfort for all.

What sort of struggles do you see for women in gaming when it comes to their gear, like chairs and desks?

Vickki Aw: In the past, gaming gear, including chairs and desks, often lacked the versatility to accommodate diverse body types and preferences. This one-size-fits-all approach could inadvertently overlook the comfort and ergonomic needs of many gamers, including women. We recognize these challenges and are dedicated to breaking the cycle with products designed for adaptability and inclusiveness.

What does the Iskur V2 have that helps to break that cycle?

Vickki Aw: The Razer Iskur V2 is engineered with a focus on ergonomics, support, and adjustability. By incorporating features like the 6D lumbar support system, we’re breaking the cycle of limited options and ensuring that gamers of all genders have access to high-quality, comfortable, and supportive gaming chairs.

I know from my appointment at CES 2024 with Razer that there were multiple women on the team for the Iskur V2. Was that because of the focus on buyer diversity for this chair, or was the diversity because so many women were involved?

Vickki Aw: The diversity within the team that developed the Iskur V2 reflects our commitment to understanding and catering to a broad audience. This wasn’t a targeted strategy for this particular product; rather, it’s part of Razer’s broader commitment to diversity and inclusion. We believe that having a diverse team leads to more innovative and inclusive product designs.

There was a literal Doctor at my CES appointment who gave me a “Razer Chair Lab Prescription Note.” What research did Razer do that implemented this kind of appointment—how did you know we needed help?

Vickki Aw: In creating the Razer Iskur V2, we placed heavy emphasis on ergonomics and support, acknowledging the extensive hours gamers spend in their seats. Recognizing that Iskur V2 is one of the market’s most adjustable gaming chairs, we also understand that optimal chair adjustment isn’t necessarily common knowledge.

The Chair Lab experience at CES was crafted not just to showcase the innovative features of the Razer Iskur V2 but to offer a personalized chair fitting session. This ensures that once you bring the Iskur V2 into your home, you’re equipped with the knowledge to adjust it perfectly to your body.

But our ambition extended beyond just chair adjustments. At Razer, wellness forms the core of our design philosophy. Through the Chair Lab, we aimed to impart essential wellness tips that attendees could share with their audience and integrate into their daily routines. This gesture was our way of demonstrating Razer’s commitment to not just gaming excellence but to the health and comfort of our community.

Was the process of designing the Iskur V2 different from other iterations, specifically because women and different body types were being included?

Vickki Aw: The design process of the Iskur V2 differed from previous iterations by placing a stronger emphasis on inclusivity and adaptability. Recognizing the diversity of gamers and their unique requirements has always been part of our design philosophy, but with the Iskur V2, we took additional steps to ensure these considerations were at the forefront of our development process.

Would you say that the Razer Iskur V2 is good for most body types, or is there a focus on one specific type?

Vickki Aw: The Razer Iskur V2 is designed to be exceptionally versatile, making it suitable for most body types. Our aim was not to focus on one specific type but to create a chair that can be easily adjusted to meet the ergonomic needs of a wide range of gamers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the ultimate gaming experience.

And just for fun, what is your favourite thing about the new Razer Iskur V2?

Vickki Aw: Oh gosh, where do I start?! Personally, my two favourite things about the Razer Iskur V2 are the widened seat base and the adjustable lumbar!

Being a tall woman myself (I’m 5’9!) I’ve always struggled to find a chair that has enough seatbase for me to cross my legs comfortably. Having the reduced seat flanges and widened seat base really made a huge difference for me, and now I get the flexibility to switch out my sitting positions throughout the day when I feel like it!

The lumbar support is a game changer for me as I suffer from lower back pain, so having the ability to bump up that protrusion when I need a little more support has been really helpful.

The Razer Iskur V2 gaming chair is available now on Amazon or Razer’s website for $649 USD.
