A New Kevin Smith Lead Film, The 4:30 Movie, Has Been Acquired by Saban Films

The latest film written and directed by Kevin Smith — the mind behind the Askewniverse — The 4:30 Movie, has been acquired by Saban Films.

Kevin Smith and Saban Films are joining forces once again, and the latest news coming out of the film industry has Saban Films officially acquiring the rights to Smith’s latest directorial effort. The 4:30 Movie, written and directed by Kevin Smith, has now been purchased and will fall under the Saban Films umbrella. Smith and Saban have joined forces once before on the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which scored 46% on Metacritic but served as a celebration of Smith’s career and overarching Askewniverse. Smith’s X (formerly Twitter) post on the film can be seen below.

Kevin Smith spoke to Deadline regarding The 4:30 Movie saying, “So I started writing a personal paean to the past for us 70’s and 80’s kids – the pre-information generation who grew up without the Internet, when romance and relationships required much more than a swipe to get started, and the idea of asking out someone you had a crush on was as terrifying as the looming threat of nuclear war” regarding the genesis of The 4:30 Movie, and remarked on the shooting location, Smodcastle Cinemas, as a good purchase due to the “visually interesting and cost-free movie location!”

Chief Content Officer of Saban Films, Jonathan Saba, said, “Kevin has been one of the defining voices in American Independent Cinema for 30 years now, and The 4:30 Movie is like a Valentine to moviegoers from a lifelong film fan that also acts as his most personal production yet. This is our second of hopefully many movies together” on the new Smith and Saban production.

The 4:30 Movie stars Ken Jeong, Sam Richardson, Genesis Rodriguez, Justin Long, Jason Lee, Rachel Dratch, Kate Micucci, Adam Pally, Harley Quinn Smith, and Method Man. CGMagazine will keep readers updated on any new information regarding Kevin Smith’s latest directorial effort when it surfaces.
