Among Us VR is a stand-alone experience, developed from the ground up. It draws inspiration from the design and mechanics already in Among Us. In this version, players will still enjoy the gameplay centred around teamwork and betrayal with text and voice chat capabilities. There is also online play, and crewmates can play with 4 – 10 players as they roam around the spaceship while completing tasks, and keeping an eye out for the imposter.

Players will still be able to experience the same play style as the original game, but this time in their own virtual Skeld. “We are so excited that our community will be able to experience Among Us VR later this year,” said Community Director for Innersloth, Victoria Tran. “Crewmates across the world will feel right at home in the VR version of the Skeld and are sure to enjoy the tension and thrills an immersive experience offers. Our team has had fun testing Among Us VR throughout the development process, and we can’t wait for the community to put on their headsets and play.”

In 2020, Innersloth requested assistance from video game consulting firm, Robot Teddy, to help them bring the game to additional platforms and manage other facets of the business. Shell Games is working with both companies to bring Among Us to virtual reality platforms, so players can be fully immersed in the game’s universe.

“Our team works closely with Innersloth and Robot Teddy to stay true to the characteristics the community loves about Among Us,” said CEO, Jesse Schell. “Adapting this title to the virtual reality space presents interesting challenges, like not making the game too scary, and wonderful opportunities, like modifying voice capabilities, to create an engaging experience that holds true to the original vision of the game.”

“We’ve worked with Forest, Jesse and their teams for a few years now and the opportunity to set the gold standard for a social multiplayer VR game is good to pass up!” said Director of Robot Teddy, Ranjani Natarajan. Crewmates and Imposters can now wishlist Among Us VR on the Meta Quest coming soon page and on Steam. They can also visit the Among Us VR website, and follow the game on Twitter.
