Apple Embraces Wireless Charging With the iPhone 8

The iPhone 8 has officially been unveiled.

Among a slew of Apple product announcements made during the company’s live stream, Apple revealed new version to their current smart phone. The iPhone 8 features a much faster processor than its predecessor, making it a great improvement over this year’s model. It uses the new A11 Bionic chip which features a six-core CPU design and is currently being considered the most powerful ever chip ever used in a smart phone.

The iPhone 8 also includes an improved 12-megapixel camera that capture 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p slo-mo up to 240fps. Both the iPhone 8’s 4.7 and the 8 Plus’ 5.5 inch display add the addition of True Tone display. This adjusts the screens white balance display to best match the area’s current lighting.

Another major change made for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus is its glass backing. Available in grey, silver and gold, the change from the standard aluminum will allow for inductive wireless charging. The phone can now be charged by simply placing it on top of the charging pad. The charging pad, which will be released in 2018, will also work with the upcoming iPhone X.

“iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are a new generation of iPhone that improve on everything we love about iPhone” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will both launch with iOS 8, Apple’s newest and most advanced operating system. The new operating system brings a number of improvements, specifically involving augmented reality. Pricing for the new devices will start at $929 CAD and will be available for preorder this Friday from Apple’s official site and at Apple stores. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will officially be available starting on September 22.
