Hot off the heels of their announcement of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft may be working on another remake of the game that started the massive franchise.
Originally posted to the Assassin’s Creed News Twitter account, Tom Henderson said, “that there is another Assassin’s Creed remake in the works, one of the earlier ones.” This was then followed up by the streamer xj0nathan, who retweeted the post saying (via translation), “I heard it from a contact in 2023, normally it’s AC1.”
This would align with a statement made by Yves Guillemot during an interview in 2024 where he said, “Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them,” adding, “there are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.”
While not directly related, Insider Gaming has also reported that 50 developers who were working on Assassin’s Creed: Hexe, which was set to be the newest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series. Rumours suggest the timing of the shift could point to developers within Ubisoft being moved off Assassin’s Creed: Hexe to work on a possible Assassin’s Creed remake, however these claims remain unsubstantiated.
Although one would hope, since, according to sources familiar with the matter (via Insider Gamer), “members of the Interproject team are required to secure a project at Ubisoft within a three-month period, or they could face redundancy.” This news comes just a few days after Ubisoft announced their Animal Crossing-like Alterra has also been cancelled.
The original Assassin’s Creed was released on November 13th, 2007 and originated out of ideas for a sequel for Ubisoft’s video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The premier entry in the series received universal acclaim for its blending of genres, impeccable storytelling, and unique gameplay.
