Right now, fans of the FPS series who have yet to dive into Battlefield 2042 can do so completely free with a trial that starts today and ends next week.

On the eve of Battlefield 2042‘s Season 06: Dark Creations, the developers at DICE have unleashed a free trial period to acquaint combatants with the new season. Dark Creations also introduces a spooky element to the Battlefield, tying in the upcoming Halloween Holiday as the DICE title edges closer to its two-year anniversary. According to SteamCharts, Battlefield 2042 has seen a turbulent player base since its launch, ranging from a low daily peak player count of 3,241 to a high of 100,590 at launch in November 2021. The new free trial period gives players who have yet to give the latest entry in the Battlefield franchise a try before shelling out money, although the full title will be completely playable during the trial period.

One of the biggest draws to Battlefield 2042‘s Dark Creations is the introduction of the new map ‘Redacted’, which forces players to become more intimate in the middle of a fire zone simply because the map is small. Combatants will have to master the art of close-quarters combat to survive on this new map, which DICE describes as “claustrophobic”. Combatants can also equip new weapons like the VHX D3 assault rifle, fly the new YUV-2 “Pondhawk,” which is capable of transporting up to two comrades in the air, and unlock 100+ new reward tiers of the season battle pass with Dark Creations.

Fans looking to get in on the action simply have to download Battlefield 2042 on the platform of their choice (Steam link here) and jump into the fight. Those who have been on the fence about 2042 should act hastily, considering the free trial is only available until October 16.
