Bassam Tariq Confirmed as Director Marvel's Blade

Bassam Tariq has confirmed he is directing the next Blade film, adding even more promising talent to the Marvel universe.

Bassam Tariq’s most recent film was 2020’s Mogul Mowgli, which is an emotional film starring Riz Ahmed that follows a rapper returning home after being diagnosed with a degenerative autoimmune disease. It received a lot of praise when it was first released, and it deals with some difficult topics. Looking at Bassam Tariq’s previous work makes it clear the director will be able to bring a unique perspective to the Marvel hero, Blade.

Tariq is teaming up with some big talent that’s already attached to the upcoming Marvel film too. Earlier this year, it was announced that Mahershala Ali would be portraying Blade. Ali also helped select Stacy Osei-Kuffour as the film’s writer. Ossei-Kuffour set some Marvel history as well by becoming Marvel’s first black woman director.

Marvel'S Blade Confirms Bassam Tariq As Director

Tariq signing on to direct just adds more credibility and hype to the upcoming film, which is currently set to act as a reboot for the character. It will also serve as Blade’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he will be able to share in the struggles and triumphs with the rest of Marvel’s heroes.

Tariq sounds pretty excited too. On an episode of The Playlist Podcast, he discussed his thoughts on the rule, including that he didn’t even think the film would be getting made. It must be surreal for him to be officially attached to the film.

“I’m honoured and it’s a privilege, but I’m here in service of Stacy Osei-Kuffour, who is the incredible writer that is writing the film… She’s just a phenomenal presence and a juggernaut in her own right. And for Mahershala [Ali]. For me, it’s really just working in their service.”

It was previously reported Bassam Tariq would be attached as the film’s director, but this is the first official confirmation. It’s too soon to start speculating though. The film doesn’t even have a release date or trailer yet. But it is happening. It is real. And soon, Blade will be part of the MCU.
