We all knew the game sounded a little too good to be true.

A recent posting on the game’s official blog announced that the no-longer-upcoming downloadable title has been cancelled. Mega Man Universe was supposed to be released at some point in Spring 2011 for XBLA and PSN and combined user-generated content with classic 2D Mega Man gameplay. Mega Man Universe also had crossover tie-ins with other Capcom games like Street Fighter and Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

The blog says the game was cancelled for unspecific but “various reasons,” which may (or may not) include the recent earthquake or the departure of Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune.
