CD PROJEKT RED Confirms Upcoming Layoffs, 9% of Staff Affected

9% Cuts

CD PROJEKT RED Is The Latest Studio To Announce Layoffs With 9% Of Staff

There has been no shortage of layoffs affecting the tech industry, and following in the footsteps of previous announcements CD PROJEKT RED announced 9% will be affected.

Since the beginning of 2023, there has been an abundance of layoffs that have hit the tech and gaming industry like a storm. Disney, Take Two, Unity, Twitter (now ‘X’) and even Microsoft have faced massive layoffs since January, and CD PROJEKT RED is the latest to follow this unfortunate and growing trend. Today, the company that built The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 has issued a public statement that outlines its reasoning for cutting 9% of its workforce.

CEO of CD PROJEKT RED, Adam Kiciński said ” There’s no easy way to say this, but today we are overstaffed. We have talented people on board who are finishing their tasks and — based on current and expected project needs — we already know we don’t have other opportunities for them in the next year,” including “This will not be immediate as some employees will be let go as late as Q1 2024 but, in the spirit of transparency, we’ve chosen to share the information now,” in his statement today, so although the layoffs are unfortunate, the company has chosen to reveal the information far in advance, unlike other layoff movements that have happened earlier in the year.

Some have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to give their opinions on the matter, directly under the official post from CD PROJEKT RED. User @zVisceral_ said “Good thing to share everything with the community. Thats how the business works sadly. Sometimes you win sometimes not…” with a realistic approach, whereas other commenters have gone the scathing route. User @MomosMnet said sarcastically, “AH yes nothing better than to keep working not knowing if you’re part of the 100 people losing their job between now and next year.”

Anyway, CD PROJEKT RED has confirmed that the layoffs will definitely happen, and at the moment, there is no confirmed number of how many people will be let go. Anyone interested in discovering more will just have to stay tuned for further announcements and to read the entire message to fans, head over to the official CD PROJEKT RED website.
