Daredevil Actor Charlie Cox Finally Plays Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Admits He's Not Very Good At It

After admitting he felt like a “total fraud” last year for not having played Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, beloved actor Charlie Cox, who voices Gustave, has finally remedied that situation, at least a little bit.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ ahead of the BAFTA Games Awards, Daredevil actor, Charlie Cox said, “I’ve since played a bit of it,” but then stressed, “Not the whole thing, I haven’t completed it,” adding “I’ve played the opening bit for a while and kind of walked around and met the people and garnered the information and all that kind of stuff. Not very well.”

With the overwhelming success of Expedition 33, Cox has, naturally, been asked about it multiple times at conventions and appearances. Most notably, after his nomination for Best Actor at The Game Awards, Cox came out in support of mocap actor Maxence Cazorla, who helped bring Gustave to life, saying they deserved the award more than he did.

It’s little surprise Cox would eventually find his way to playing Expedition 33, although it sounds like it’s been quite a while since the actor really delved into gaming. He notes that his memories of games probably reach up to FIFA 98, as well as Mario Kart and GoldenEye 007. But he also has some interesting reflections on the difference of games now, and Expedition 33 specifically, likening it to a “movie you get to participate in.”

“Those games I just listed… They weren’t, like, stories that were so carefully carved out and created over the course of a game with the level of detail and the way in which information is received,” Cox says, “It’s not just all spelled out – you discover these things as you go on through the game.”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
