DC Comics Announces A Five Book Deal With Frank Miller 3

DC Comics announced today that they have agreed on a five project deal with iconic writer and artist Frank Miller.

The company also revealed that one of the five projects will be an original graphic novel starring The Dark Knight Returns’ Carrie Kelly with art by Prez artist Ben Caldwell. Another Frank Miller led book, Superman Year One was announced a couple weeks ago and will be the first book in DC’s upcoming Black Label Imprint.

Miller says that he is, “psyched to continue my partnership with DC. Developing the Carrie Kelley project and Superman: Year One with Dan and Jim has been a dream. It’s thrilling to have Carrie Kelley take centre stage for the first time, and the energy that Ben is bringing to her is new and different—it’s incredible to see.”

Frank Miller is best known for his influential work in the 1980’s including The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year One. The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of an old and broken Batman trying to save Gotham City and going up against the Joker one final time. It is considered by many to be one of the best Batman stories ever told and it was adapted as an animated film in 2012. On the opposite end of the spectrum,  Batman: Year One involves an inexperienced Bruce Wayne taking up the Batman mantle and trying to find his way in the world while facing off against the police as well as some evil-doers.

DC Publisher Dan DiDio says that he is excited about the deal both professionally and personally. “Frank is a creative force in this industry, not just with a transformative take on iconic characters like Superman and Batman, but also by tackling the young reader genre,” said DC Publisher Dan DiDio in a statement. “He is an icon. As a publisher, I’m thrilled – as a fan, I’m even more excited.”

Superman Year One launches this fall and will be followed by a number of mature titles starring DC Comics characters.
