A new leak hints that a Devil May Cry remake has been consistently moving forward in development over at Capcom.
Capcom has been killing the remake and mainline games for their popular franchises, with Resident Evil Requiem and the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword. A recent leak claims that a Devil May Cry remake is reportedly moving along the development pipeline “pretty far along.” While this insider information should not be taken to heavily, it breathes hope that Capcom might be cooking another great remake using the amazing RE Engine.
The latest rumour comes from ‘just your average leaker’ or @MajorPlayeix who said on X, “Let’s be blunt about it. You’re getting a DMC1 Remake. Yes. just like those rumors said. Hearing it’s pretty far along actually but I’ll have to see for myself before making any release/trailer date bets.” In a May 8, 2025 interview, the director on Devil May Cry, Hideki Kamiya even expressed interest to work on the remake. Unfortunately, this was all that was revealed, so there is not much to go on.
Leaks about a Devil May Cry remake have been steadily growing since 2025, and this is not related to DmC: Devil May Cry in 2013 from Ninja Theory. Ninja Theory has been making great action games since Heavenly Sword in 2007, and has gone on to make Senua games—it is sad that Xbox is planning to chop them after announcing Senua. However, it was clear fans wanted Capcom to continue to original mainline games to follow Devil May Cry 4. Capcom delivered by dropping Devil May Cry 5 in 2019. Mind you, Devil May Cry 4 came out in 2008.

Capcom already proves they do amazing remakes, with Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 raking so much sales for the company. RE 2 sold 18.3 million copies; RE 3 sold 13.6 copies, and RE 4 sold about 13.4 million copies. They have been shattering their own records of selling these remakes at a fast rate, so maybe they can recreate the sales with remaking the older Devil May Cry games. It may even work if they remade the older Onimusha games, if the newest game shows a lot of interest when that releases in September later this year.
With new fans jumping into the world through Adi Shankar and Netflix’s Devil May Cry animated series, maybe the new fans need a better way to jump into the original games too. It would not be a bad idea to let new and returning players experience the original Devil May Cry games in a modernized way. While I would say it would be cool to see a video game version of the Netflix series’ Dante, Lady, and Virgil, I think the gamers would prefer to see the original characters revitalized in a remake.
Capcom is already releasing the Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunter Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. This could technically be what Capcom was referencing when talking about expanding the IP. Ports are nice and all, but for a game that came out 2001 we want to see how this game could look on the latest RE Engine.
