The second season of Diablo 4, coined Season of Blood, was shown at Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live, showing an exclusive first look at what is to come.
Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live revealed that the world of Sanctuary has been updated with Diablo 4: Season of Blood. Host and journalist Geoff Keighley was able to talk with Gemma Chan and General Manager at Blizzard Rod Fergusson on the new season of Diablo 4. The new trailer showed off some of the gameplay along with story elements and flavourful storytelling/narration.
Season of Blood was said to have players follow Chan’s character Erys across the world of Sanctuary. She stated how this was her first entry into the video game industry but was just an important medium as films or other forms, as she has been in blockbuster movies like Crazy Rich Asians and Marvel’s Eternals. The trailer revealed the new season will have a new questline, new vampiric powers and five new endgame bosses. Fergusson talked about creating an “ultimate power fantasy” for the millions of players, and he took the time to thank fans for keeping the franchise going.
Chan explained that the story will follow the seasoned vampire hunter as she will be the “badass” companion on quests that players will embark on. The trailer and Chan’s description of Erys’ past seemed bleak, and her personality was said to be “complex.” Chan added that she could “come off as cold and jaded” but will always have your back in a fight. Fergusson expanded that players will get vampiric powers that allow players to be “daywalkers who hunt vampires as vampires.” The end goal seemed to all point to the players sticking it out with Erys and facing off against the so-called Vampire Lord as the final boss.
After Diablo 4: Season of the Malignant, this new season will be exciting and gritty to check out for all Diablo fans. This free new season will be out on October 17, 2023.
