Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is rampaging its way to North American consoles on September 4th, 2018.
Square Enix announced that the game will be releasing on PlayStation 4 and Steam with a Nintendo Switch port planned for later. In an interview with IGN, Square Enix said that their decision to release on PlayStation 4 and PC first, stemmed from them wanting to grow their Western fanbase.
“Our aim with Dragon Quest XI and the Dragon Quest brand is to grow the audience in the West. From a business point of view, it made strategic sense to release the 3DS version in Japan in 2017. For the West in 2018, it made the most sense to focus on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) platforms,” said Square Enix.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the latest instalment in the long-running Dragon Quest series. The game was originally released in Japan back in July of 2017 and the North American release will feature a number of new features.
These features include a hard mode, first-person camera mode, overhauled menus, English voiced dialogue and a dash option for faster exploration. The Japanese release of the game also included a Nintendo 3DS port of the game, but Square Enix says that there are no plans to bring the game to western 3DS audiences at the moment.
Fans who pre-order Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will get exclusive DLC items including the Vest for Success, Uber Agate of Evolution and Seed of Skill. PlayStation 4 users will also receive an exclusive home menu theme from the game.
