Capcom Announces Major Updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2 Amid Performance Woes

Stop Yowling Gamers, The Fixes Are Coming

Dragon's Dogma 2 Shows Update Plan Amidst Janky Issues 1

Capcom has released a list of upcoming updates to their latest title, Dragon’s Dogma 2 after many performance issues were reported.

If you have been barreling through Dragon’s Dogma 2 and its numerous performance mishaps this past weekend, there is a plan. Capcom tweeted out a picture this morning on the official game account that they have a planned layout for updates to the game, across all platforms. The game was proven to be popular at its release last week, and the developer even acknowledged the concerns ahead of the release.

Capcom explained to Eurogamer that they were “looking for ways to improve performance in the future.” Miraculously, they will be implementing an ability to start a new game when existing save data is already present, something a lot of players have complained is not currently possible. They will also be changing up the number of Art of Metamorphosis items available to buy at Pawn Guilds to 99. These particular updates will be available across PlayStation, Xbox and PC.

As for players on consoles, players will soon be able to switch ray tracing and motion blur on or off. There will also be the option to set Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s frame rate to either Variable (which it currently is now) or to a 30fps cap. The game currently has an uncapped frame rate, which means it can sometimes go under or over 30 frames per second, depending on the situation. No one enjoys sporadic frame rates because that can result in jittering movement, inconsistent pacing and an overall headache to view. Those playing on Steam will get improved visuals with DLSS.

Here is the list of planned updates coming to Dragon’s Dogma 2:

All platforms

  • Adding the option to start a new game when save data already exists.
  • Changing the number of “Art of Metamorphosis” items available at Pawn Guilds in the game to 99.
  • Making the quest that allows players to acquire their own dwelling (where they can save and rest) available earlier in the game.
  • Miscellaneous text display fixes.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes.

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

  • Adding the option* to switch Motion Blur on/off in Options.
  • Adding the option* to switch Ray Tracing on/off in Options.
  • Adding the option to set Frame Rate to either Variable or Max 30fps in Options.
  • *These options will not affect the frame rate significantly. Frame rate improvements are planned for future updates.

Steam

  • Improving quality when DLSS Super Resolution is enabled.
  • Fixing an issue where models appeared low-quality under some specific settings.

Capcom has said these updates and fixes will be available “in the near future,” with the developer stating it will “release them as soon as they are ready for distribution on each platform.” Hopefully, these updates will begin rolling out in the next week or so. Be sure to catch our review of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which is about how great it was: “Imagine an RPG with limitless party members created by the community. This is what Dragon’s Dogma 2 accomplishes.”
