Pokémon Go developer, Niantic has announced details on its upcoming collab with one of the most famous pop musicians of the 2000s, Ed Sheeran which is set to kick off early next week.
The announcement isn’t that surprising as the Grammy-award-winning singer-songwriter himself revealed a tease of a crossover with the highly popular AR game earlier this week. The event is set to kick off on November 22nd at 2 p.m. ET and will last until the following Tuesday on November 30th at 4 p.m. ET. The main part of the musical crossover is a performance from Ed Sheeran, assumedly in a pre-recorded video through Pokémon Go‘s new feed.
The music that Sheeran will be playing includes songs from Ed Sheeran’s most recent album called ‘=’, which are as listed below.
- “Bad Habits”
- “Overpass Graffiti”
- “Thinking Out Loud”
- “First Times”
Niantic adds that anyone who participates in the event will get branded = sweatshirts which players can equip on their avatars. In addition, the musical collab will be water Pokémon focused event as “Ed always chooses the Water-type Pokémon as his first partner when he starts a Pokémon RPG.”
“In celebration of this collaboration, look forward to an event featuring all of the Water-type first-partner Pokémon currently available in Pokémon Go,” Niantic wrote in a blog post.
In addition to the news, Pokémon Go‘s Twitter account revealed in a post that Squirtle with special sunglasses-wearing variety aka the ‘Squirte Squad’ variant is making its return and is currently available to catch in the game. This is a pretty notable return as this version of Squirtle hasn’t been available in the game since its initial release in July 2018 for Squirtle Community Day, who knows its inclusion in the upcoming event might have been a deal-breaker for Ed Sheeran.
