Nintendo Switch 2 players will be able to play Elden Ring Tarnished Edition on August 28, featuring a tailored Switch 2 experience.
Revisit FromSoftware’s The Lands Between on the Nintendo Switch 2. Today, Bandai Namco and Elden Ring announced details on what Switch 2 players can expect from Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, dropping on August 28, 2026. Many updates and expansion dropped for the game since its original release in 2022, so this special Switch 2 edition reflects those updates. The game will come with Shadow of the Erdtree, two new Starting Classes for players to choose from, along with new character armour and the ability to customize Torrent, players’ faithful Spectral Steed.
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion extends the story of the original game, where players embark on a new adventure full of mysteries and danger—setting off on a terrifying journey where they will confront threatening bosses and discover new gear, abilities, weapons and armour. Following in the footsteps of Miquella, the once tarnished legions who rose to Elden Lord may now need to leave their grace behind, as they unravel the sinister dark side of the Elden Ring story.
The original Elden Ring received more than 400 Game of the Year nominations and sold 30 million units worldwide. This dark fantasy world was imagined by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Dark Souls video game series, along with George R.R. Martin—author of The New York Times’ best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Finally, Nintendo Switch 2 players can embark on this journey in the best way possible for handheld. This will be a great start to get the game’s spin-off title Elden Ring Nightrein also ported to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Early hands-on reports noted how the port edition was running sluggishly in 2025 testing, which was why they pushed the release date to 2026 “to allow time for performance adjustments.” Now, the devs sound confident that it is ready for release. The game’s official X account also posted: “Rise, Tarnished. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026.”
CGMagazine’s review of Elden Ring by writer Preston Dozsa gave the game a 9.5/10, noting how “there is always something new to tackle…the nature of the world design means that it is arguably the most accessible in the FromSoftware RPG catalogue.” Nintendo players will soon be able to experience the incredible journey to become the Elden Lord. Face off against overwhelming challenges, sprawling environments, and danger at every turn in this open-world action RPG. Players will chart their own path in the vast and seamless world of the Lands Between, on foot or riding Torrent, their trusted Spectral Steed.
This is the full package of the game over the years, but enhanced to run on the Nintendo Switch 2. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026.
