Funko Games Reveals New Tabletop Games at Gen Con

Funko Games has revealed a couple of new tabletop games at Gen Con Indy 2021 that honour 20th-century pop culture through the decades.

Funko Games is celebrating pop culture past by kicking off with the 1970s with the announcement of a brand-new cooperative game, The Warriors: Come Out to Play. It is rated for ages 13+ and can be played with two to four players. It is currently available for preorder and will hit local game and hobby stores sometime in early 2022 for $24.99 USD.

In the game, players must navigate New York’s subway system to their home turf of Coney Island to prove their innocence. The Warriors: Come Out to Play is based on the 1979 cult classic and tells the story of The Warriors that are accused of killing Cyrus, the charismatic leader of the Gramercy Riffs.

The Warriors is one of those films with a devoted fan base 40 years later, who quote every line and nerd out on the peculiar gangs – Baseball Furies, the Punks, and High Hats,” Deirdre Cross, Funk Games vice president, Deirdre Cross said.

“We have reimagined all the familiar elements from the movie, including the evocative radio DJ, memorable characters and iconic gangs. Prospero Hall’s inventive gameplay and original artwork bring the film’s gritty aesthetic to life, creating an experience that is worthy of the most ardent Warriors’ fan.”

We go from the 1970s to the 1980s with an expansion that continues the story from the summer-released game, The Goonies: Never Say Die. In The Goonies: Under the Goondocks A Never Say Die Expansion, players return to Astoria in three new adventures as they take on the roles of teenagers Andy, Brand and Stef as they race to stop Troy before he unleashes the evils below the Goondocks.

For anyone at Gen Con Indy this week, you can pick up advance copies at the Funko Games booth before it hits stores this holiday season. The Goonies: Under the Goondocks A Never Say Die Expansion will cost you $14.99 USD. It is rated for ages 12+ and can be played with two to five players.

Now we’re in the 1990s with the upcoming release of The Rocketeer: Fate of the Future. For the first time, the game will be on sale exclusively for $24.99 USD at the Funko Games booth before it drops on store shelves next month. The game, rated for ages 12+, puts two players into a game of cat-and-mouse as they try to keep their plans from each other in the game.

With that, there is one more announcement that is a bit more modern, as Funko Games has revealed its first-ever legacy, based on Jurassic World. It’s pretty early as the game doesn’t even have an official title but the game kicks of from the inception of Jurassic Park and takes players through the almost 30-year franchise and beyond.

The Jurassic game is built from the ground up and is played over the course of a single campaign which “changes the game permanently each session.” Anyone interested in the game and is at Gen Con Indy this week can get a sneak peek of it before it’s officially revealed next year, the game is slated to release sometime in Summer 2022.

Again if you’re near the event in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indiana Convention centre, Funko Games can be found at Gen Con Indy in booth #1323.
