For the last several months rumors have been circulating that Konami was looking to revive the Silent Hill franchise. Some of these rumors even indicated that the publisher already had two games in development. While rumors of long-dead franchise revivals are pretty common in the gaming industry, false reports and accurate leaks happen to be relatively even. Which gave Silent Hill fans something to be excited about, as the franchise has been rather quiet ever since Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s shelved ‘P.T.’ demo project. The latest entry in the franchise was a slot machine announced last year.
Unfortunately for fans, Konami has confirmed that the latest rumors of Pyramidhead’s return are untrue. A Konami PR representative responded to @Nibellion, who has reported on the rumors, “We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true.”
While this is disappointing, the representative went on to confirm that Konami isn’t “completely closing the door on the franchise.” Their plans to continue Silent Hill just doesn’t match up with what is being reported.
Many of the rumors surrounding the games came from reports by a known leaker in the gaming community who had accurately reported the Resident Evil 3 remake and Resident Evil 7 “Not a Hero” DLC.
Now, Aesthetic Gamer’s report may very well be the truth. But those two games that were being pitched, he even commented in the same thread, “I don’t know where these projects are at now or if they’ll come into fruition.” So the projects could very well have been redirected or shut down sometime in the last two years.
All we know right now is that Konami does not have a new Silent Hill game or two in the works. Though that could change in the future. Or, Konami could be looking to create a Silent Hill line of slot machines.
