Konami Teases Return of Silent Hill With New Development Team

Time to Dust Out The Horror Resumes

Konami Is Hiring For New Silent Hill Production Team 1

Konami revealed today that they will be opening a new in-house dev team for a potential new Silent Hill game project.

A surprise from Konami surfaced this morning, hinting at a possible new Silent Hill game in the works. They have announced the creation of a new in-house development team called the Silent Production Team, and have already posted job openings on social media and their website. The recruitment page on their website confirms the link to the survival horror franchise.

There was also a Q&A section on the Konami site, which stated that they were looking for employees who “like action games and horror games, as well as people who like foreign dramas and movies that deal with serious themes.” It was almost a cry for the new hires to have Silent Hill vibes and energy. But it could also be a way of bringing fresh ideas to the franchise. Currently, the company seems to be looking for artists, planners, engineers and project managers. ResetEra user Lucia first spotted the recruitment page.

It has been over a year now since Konami discussed their plans to finally bring back the Silent Hill series with a remake of Silent Hill 2 from Bloober Team, a more indie-focused spin-off in Silent Hill: Townfall from Annapurna Interactive, and what appears to be the next mainline entry: Silent Hill F. While very little has been shared since the announcement in 2022, this might be a step in the right direction of getting one of these projects finished.

This whole announcement is massive, as Konami has been taking a step back from development for some time now and have decided to become a major publisher. The only things they really produced, aside from their Metal Gear Solid staples, were games like Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. While most of these projects were something, they were not AAA-level. So, this could be the start of a new Konami, with development back in the forefront.

It has been a long time since the Silent Hill series has been worked on internally. For some context, Konami disbanded its original Silent Hill development team, Team Silent, after the release of Silent Hill 4 in 2004. Konami wanted to take the series in a new direction, so they removed Team Silent and brought in Western developers for later Silent Hill games like Homecoming and Origins. This shocked fans, as Team Silent was beloved for creating the iconic early Silent Hill games.

Konami has also been working hard at reviving the Metal Gear Solid series, post-Hideo Kojima working at the studio. That has been a bunch of speculation as well, but some ground has been made with the recent Master Collection. We will have to wait and see how this core production team will be able to deliver on these upcoming Silent Hill projects.
