Big Update, Big Delay

Marathon Delays PvE Update Until December 8, Moving On From a Seasonal Release Model

Bungie has announced its next title update for Marathon, the one that’s supposed to introduce PvE content, has been delayed until December 8.

Bungie’s big overhaul for Marathon is no longer launching on September 22nd. Bungie has actually announced they’re doing away with the seasonal model entirely, in a new post on the official Bungie website, the development team behind Marathon released what they’re calling “Nightfall Refresh and December Update Symbiosis.” In the new post, the developers have detailed what players can expect when the new update now launches on December 8.

Marathon Delays Pve Update Until December 8, Moving On From A Seasonal Release Model

The post reads, “We previously shared plans for Marathon’s next major update to launch on September 22,” adding, “We know many players were looking forward to it, and we appreciate your patience. We are adjusting our plans to ensure the update meets your expectations.” Now, the new content update that was supposed to introduce PvE functionality and encounters, will now arrive as part of our Symbiosis update on December 8. The update will now encompass both updates as Marathon moves away from the seasonal model. This confirms Bungie is all in with Marathon for the long haul.

The update will include a wealth of improvements and content for runners, including a new Runner shell (which counts as the playable operator in matches). Further updates include a permanent PvE experience (the previously promised Destiny 2-like features), refreshed Perimeter zone, and a social space/firing range hub added for community interaction. On top of that, Bungie is looking to include an experimental TDM mode, and improvements to new player onboarding, to improve new player retention.

Marathon Gets A Content-Filled Mid-Season Update And Displate Partnership

Although the big Nightfall Refresh and December Update Symbiosis has been delayed, on October 6, Marathon is resetting progression and the in-game economy, giving all players a fresh starting point and a myriad of undetailed “quality of life” improvements. On top of that, for the eight weeks between the October 6 refresh and December 8 update, Marathon is bringing back the Vault Breaker PvE mode so fans have the experimental PvE mode to play before the bigger update goes into effect.

Fans looking for more information can head to the official Bungie website to see everything that’s coming, but until then, runners should gear up for the first smaller update on October 6. The larger December 8 update will follow, which will unleash the Nightfall Refresh and Symbiosis updates onto Marathon servers.
