Mark Wahlberg Claims An Uncharted 2 Script Is Written

So We're Getting Mustache Sully Now?

Mark Wahlberg Claims An Uncharted 2 Script Is Written 1

Actor Mark Wahlberg stated in a recent interview that the script for Uncharted 2 has been written, despite no official announcement.

Despite the mixed reception of the latest Uncharted film adaptation, the sequel may be coming out closer than most have anticipated. Uncharted star Mark Wahlberg stated the script for Uncharted 2 has already been written, even though there has been no official announcement from Sony Pictures. In an interview with The Direct, Wahlberg explained that the script was still being developed and is working out a few avenues the story could go.

“I’ve heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody’s written a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time,” Wahlberg said. “Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.” While this did not reveal too much, it is quite funny and good to know they could be committing to the mustached version of Sully from the Uncharted games. It was only teased in the post-credit scene for the film.

Of course, Wahlberg has donned the character Victor “Sully” Sullivan, an experienced treasure hunter who recruits Holland’s character, Nathan Drake, to aid him in a heist. The Uncharted movie released in 2022 served as a sort of prequel story to the Naughty Dog action-adventure video game series. The film had success for Sony Pictures since it opened with $139 million at the opening weekend box office. Shortly after, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman said Uncharted was “a new hit movie franchise for the company.”

When asked more about the mustached version of Sully for the sequel, Wahlberg added, “I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there’s a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous. I admire actors who can wear wigs and prosthetics and makeup and all that stuff. I’ve successfully worn one prosthetic, but that was long ago…” At least a prosthetic mustache was considered, and not CGI!

He noted how he would like to return for the sequel but has not confirmed being signed on to appear in Uncharted 2 yet. He commented how fans “really appreciated” the mustache nod at the end, and that the screenplay would have to be better than the first film for him to return. Producer Charles Roven also expressed interest in making a sequel in August 2022, saying he was “definitely looking” to adapt the adventures of Nathan Drake and Sully further for the big screen. I believe the next film should really begin its venture into making a direct adaptation, otherwise the fan base may begin to dwindle.
