Uncharted Movie Trailer Releases Following Leak

Set to target both hardcore fans and newcomers to the series

Uncharted Movie Trailer Releases Following Leak

An Uncharted movie has been in development hell for well over a decade, but Sony has finally released the first official trailer of the video game adaptation.

Uncharted is set to not tell the plot from the games but an original story that is an actual prequel to the story PlayStation players know all too well. Although the movie has a couple of differences, the young Nathan Drake in his early 20s, played by Tom Holland meets Victor Sullivan aka ‘Sully’, played by Mark Wallberg in the movie. The movie is being directed by Zombieland and Venom director, Ruben Fleischer.

“[Ruben Fleischer] made the movie for both hardcore fans of the game and those who are not yet familiar with the franchise and believe that both will be equally entertained by this incredibly fun and action-packed film,” Uncharted 4 co-director, Neil Druckmann said in a blog post.

This is a huge deviation from the games as both characters are introduced to each other when Nate was in his early teens which was a huge plot point in 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Fans of the game series will notice tons of references to the games as Nate mentions his brother Sam a number of times through the trailer, who was formerly introduced in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Before the trailer was released, a poorly filmed leaked scene from the trailer was released on the internet. The scene in question was a set piece from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception in the Stowaway chapter that saw the series protagonist, Nathan Drake almost gets ejected from the cargo bay of a pirate plane but stops himself by hanging onto the connected cargo he released to defeat an enemy beforehand. That scene was adapted for the movie and fans can thankfully see a more clear version of it in the official trailer.

The Uncharted movie will be the rebranded PlayStation Productions’ first release. Before the rebrand, it was previously known as PlayStation Originals which released two animated movies based on PlayStation IP which include Heavenly Sword (2014) and Ratchet & Clank (2016). The upcoming movie adapted from Naughty Dog’s iconic series will be PlayStation’s first live-action production. Other upcoming projects include The Last of Us series, releasing sometime in 2022/2023 on HBO, a lice action Ghost of Tsushima movie helmed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski, a Twisted Metal series written by the Deadpool writers and a rumoured Sly Cooper series.

Uncharted is scheduled to release in theatres on February 18th, 2022 and under an exclusive deal with Netflix will stream on the platform at a later date. As far as the games, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection which includes a remaster of the previously mentioned Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be coming to PS5 sometime in early 2022 with a PC version releasing later.
