Minecraft Movie Adaptation to Reportedly Star Jason Momoa

Top-Selling Sandbox Game Will Make its way to Theaters

Minecraft Movie Adaptation to Reportedly Star Jason Momoa

The long-waited Minecraft movie from Warner Bros. will reportedly star AquaMan and Dune actor Jason Momoa.

While being confirmed by Hollywood Reporter on Monday, it was stated that the actor is in final negotiations to be a leading actor for one of the main characters in the movie led by the director of Napoleon Dynamite, Jared Hess.

Minecraft, the first-person survival/sandbox game, was first fully published by Mojang in November 2011 and has become one of the top-selling games ever since then, reaching more than 238 million copies worldwide. Being a simple game, Minecraft had limitless possibilities of what you were able to do. You could build dirt houses as grand as castles or even various adventure maps and game modes done by the coding of command blocks, the imagination is all yours.

The Minecraft movie has been in the works since 2014 and has had Peter Sollett, Rob McElhenney, and Shawn Levy slated to direct, but it now seems Hess is taking the movie to the finish line.

In 2019 the developer of Minecraft, Mojang, revealed the storyline of the movie. They said that the movie would be centred around a teenage girl “and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.”

The Minecraft movie was originally announced to be released somewhere in 2020, but it was pushed back several years later due to the pandemic and during it the movie experienced yet another delay due to Warner Bros. wanting the recently released Batman movie to be in theatres before Minecraft

While being the most influential game of the decade, specific details on the plot still remain a mystery as fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the Minecraft movie. It’s going to be a high quality movie since it’s being produced by Warner Bros. and I can’t wait to see the outcome of their hard work. The release date has yet to be announced.
