Pokémon GO Developer Continuing Release Despite Layoffs

Monster Hunter Now Preview - Next-level AR Gaming

The next title from Niantic, Monster Hunter Now, will release in September, with pre-registration and tiered bonuses available starting today.

During a showcase for the upcoming fourth-wall-breaking AR title from Niantic and Capcom, the highly-anticipated release date for Monster Hunter Now was revealed—with pre-registration for it starting today! Fans around the globe can prepare for its launch on September 14th, 2023, as the fantasy of hunting monsters in the real world will come to life in the same way Pokémon GO revolutionized the new genre created by Niantic in 2016. This announcement comes despite recent layoffs and project cancellations at Niantic.

Registration for Monster Hunter Now can be found on their website, allowing prospective players to get primed and ready to go (for free) on the App Store or Google Play. Those who decide to get a step ahead of the game and pre-register can expect to receive special in-game bonuses when the game launches, with increasing rewards as more players pre-register.

The following is the breakdown of the tiered bonuses for those players getting signed up now:

  • 500,000 people: Potion x10 and Paintball x3
  • 1,000,000: Founder Medal and Wander Pebble x3
  • 2,000,000: Special pre-order Makeup x2 and 500-slot Item Box Expansion
  • 3,000,000: Special pre-order Makeup x2 and Double Rewards Ticket x3
  • 5,000,000: 10k Zenny and an additional 500-slot Item Box Expansion

Since the game hasn’t been released and some of those bonuses may not mean anything to you yet, paintballs are used to mark monsters you encounter on your travels in order to hunt them later on, the Founder Medal is just a commemorative award for players who pre-register, the Wander Pebble expands the range of access to monsters and collection points, and finally, the Special pre-order Makeup can be used to customize the appearance of your character.
