Joining the upcoming Witcher game sequel and expansion, a new multiplayer game may be on the way as well.
CD Projekt Red has been cooking with their latest updates, from dropping The Witcher 4 to The Witcher 3 Songs of the Past Expansion. Now, a rumoured project codenamed ‘ Sirius’ is another upcoming game in the franchise, which will solely be multiplayer. The information came from the trusted source MP1st, which explained these first few details about this potential title.
According to the site, this is supposed to be a “brand-new game set in The Witcher universe as a free-to-play co-op action RPG currently in development.” They also noted, “This unannounced project currently targets only PC and mobile devices, with no mention of console platforms.” This would explain why it would be multiplayer-exclusive and why we have not heard of it before. I could see the marketing ramping up as CD Projekt Red nears launch, since this is not necessarily related to their mainline games.

While many fans and gamers are probably wondering, why is CD Projekt Red working on this when they could focus their efforts on already announced official mainline projects? I had the same question, especially since the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 premiered two years ago at The Game Awards 2024. These are all the details revealed verbatim on Project Sirius:
“The story is set in the year 1230, during a time when Geralt was still a young witcher. The game will put you in the boots of your very own customizable witcher, featuring the standard options you’d expect from a multiplayer experience, like gender and appearance customization. Gameplay-wise, the title will take you on contracts to kill monsters across several environments that players have come to expect from the series, such as dark forests, vibrant villages, and haunted ruins.
A skill-based system drives the combat mechanics, letting you choose abilities from different Witcher schools, shaping your moveset by mastering Signs and brewing potions. This combat is said to reward player skill with well-timed blocks, dodges, parries, and executions.”
After reading these details, I have a bit more faith that this game has some good elements. I trust the game format, much like other MMORPGs set in well-established IPs (e.g., Star Wars: The Old Republic, DC Universe). For those who like the lore building of thi world, they might appreciate this game in the same way I liked the Netflix animated films, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf and Sirens of the Deep. While the whole multiplayer focus of Project Sirius may not be for everyone, it could be a worthwhile new experience. CGMagazine will keep a keen eye on this game as it comes into official fruition.
