Netflix Releases First Teaser for Addams Family Series 'Wednesday'

The first teaser for Netflix’s Addams Family series, Wednesday has been released, following yesterday’s sleuth of Netflix Geeked Week announcements including The Sandman‘s release date, a behind-the-scenes look at the One Piece series, and more.

The series will star 19-year-old actress Jenna Ortega as the titular Wednesday, Ortega is more well known for her roles in You, Yes Day, Scream, and The Fallout. Ortega confirmed her series casting last year in an Instagram post stating “Hope I can do Wednesday Addams justice” in the Netflix series.

In the teaser, Ortega as a 16-year-old version of the character is seen tying up her hair into her iconic braided ponytails in the darkness before a full shot of her character is finally revealed. The teaser continues with the Addams Family’s ‘hand servant’, Thing, making its appearance on Wednesday’s shoulder when both characters snap their fingers – with a much more ominous tone – to end the short first look.

In celebration of the full reveal, Ortega posted a mirror selfie as Wednesday, whose expression perfectly encapsulates the character. The Netflix series was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) with Tim Burton (Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns) directing the series which is set to be his TV directorial debut.

As for plot details, Deadline describes the series as a “coming-of-age comedy” with “a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery” focusing on Wednesday during her high school years at Nevermore Academy. In the Netflix series, Wednesday will attempt “to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
