No Rest For the Wicked Launches In Early Access In April, New Deep Dive Video Revealed

Moon Studios, the team behind Ori and the Blind Forest, shared a wealth of new updates today on its next game, No Rest For the Wicked, including a surprising home-building mechanic. The studio also announced No Rest For the Wicked will launch in Early Access for PC on April 18, with a console release following later.

No Rest For the Wicked is a new action-RPG where you play as a Cerim, “a member of a group of mystical holy warriors imbued with remarkable powers and sworn to defeat the Pestilence at any cost.”

During the “Wicked Inside” showcase, which you can watch here, Moon Studios took a deep dive into No Rest For the Wicked, sharing an extensive look at the game’s world, combat, bosses, towns, the endgame, and more.

The studio emphasized that nothing in the game is procedurally generated, and everything in No Rest For the Wicked is hand-crafted by a designer. Apparently, the developer also spent years hand-painting every object and detail in the environment.

For No Rest For the Wicked, Moon Studios wanted to move away from the point-and-click style for action RPGs and designed the game around being played with WASD on a keyboard or a controller.

No Rest For the Wicked’s combat is inspired by a handful of different experiences, from ARPGs to fighting games. The deep dive into combat and bosses showed some remarkable similarities to Souls-likes, including a weighty combat system, with dodges and parries being vital. Bosses seem to revolve heavily around learning attack patterns. Of course, there are also different gear levels and plenty of loot to gather.

One of the more interesting details is a “soft class” system used by the game. Instead of locking players into a single combat class, No Rest For the Wicked lets you experiment with all of its various weapons and abilities, letting you create your own classes based on what you equip. Moon Studios hopes this system will mean no two players have the same experience.

The presentation also took a look at the town of Sacrament, where players can purchase homes to deck out with a variety of furniture and decorations. While exploring the surrounding areas, you can gather various materials and food that are used in crafting both furniture and armour.

No Rest for the Wicked launches on April 18, 2024, in Early Access on PC via Steam. Check them out on their website to keep up to date.
