Sony is working on implementing a new loyalty program called PlayStation Stars to give gamers on their platform incentives in the way of digital rewards.
Similar to how Xbox Game Pass has a quest system that implements point accruing for digital rewards, or how Nintendo has a Platinum Point system, PlayStation is the newcomer to existing loyalty programs and aims to right the ship by introducing PlayStation Stars. By completing certain game objectives, gamers on PlayStation can now be rewarded for succeeding in trials and tribulations set by the platform in pursuit of sweet loot.
The PlayStation Stars program allows fans to earn rewards without paying extra for playing games. These rewards can even be utilized towards adding funds to the PlayStation wallet. Imagine earning while gaming, to then game some more, for FREE. This is in celebration of the player, and the 27 years PlayStation has been on the gaming landscape, the digital collectibles to earn will not be coordinated in any way with Blockchain or NFTs, an opposite approach to what GameStop’s most recent aim is.
PlayStation Stars members can earn points and redeem them through a digital catalogue. There will be a good amount of ways to earn points, as outlined in the PlayStation Blog:
Once you become a member, you’ll earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. Our “Monthly Check-In” campaign simply requires you to play any game to receive a reward, while other campaigns require you to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone.

Sony’s Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty & Licensed Merchandise, Grace Chen said “We hope this new program brings to mind past gaming memories while making you excited for the future with PlayStation: commemorating the gaming eras we created together, charting new paths to explore, and bringing players together for global celebrations,” with “This is just the beginning for PlayStation Stars, and the program will continue to evolve over time,” on Sony’s focus with PlayStation Stars.
