After much hype around the PlayStation VR and its capabilities as a virtual reality unit, the headset finally released on the retail market today. With the base unit priced at $549 CDN/$399USD, it’s quite the investment for any player. But before you consider buying, check out some of the information we have on the PlayStation VR release below.
First off, let’s cut straight to the point: PS VR’s games. There’s already a variety of games available that support PlayStation VR, and they come in a range of prices. There’s Driveclub VR for $49.99, Eagle Flight for $59.99, EVE: Valkyrie for $79.99, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for $24.99, RIGS: Mechanized Combat League for $59.99 and Battlezone for $79.99, just to name a few. How does the PlayStation VR work, and how do the games play? Well, that depends. For one, you might want to check out our PlayStation VR review round-up from earlier this month, which features overviews on the unit from such publications as Gizmodo, Game Informer, engadget and the New York Times. If you’re looking for specific games to pick up, stop by and read our review round-up for Driveclub VR, our coverage on Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and our look at Batman: Arkham VR. The latter two are easily some of the strongest launch titles out there for the PS VR.
But what about price? That’s a tricky question. On the one hand, PlayStation VR is much more affordable than an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. But it’s still not cheap. Picking up the launch bundle will run you $699.99 or $499USD according to Best Buy. The box comes with PlayStation VR Worlds, a PlayStation Camera and two PlayStation Move controllers, along with the core bundle itself and the required HDMI and USB cables. If you already have the necessary accessories, then you can pick up the base unit for the aforementioned $549.99 listing. Either way, it’s not a cheap investment.
Where can you buy the PlayStation VR? The Verge notes that there’s a variety of places you can grab one: including GameStop, Toys R Us, Target, Walmart and, of course, Best Buy. If you want to shop online, there’s also Amazon and Newegg. But it’s best to act fast if you want to pick one up, they’re sure to sell fast.
