Scopely is making waves with the new gift Pokémon GO will be guaranteeing players: a maxed-out Mewtwo in-game with a special background.
Scopely inspired fans’ anger when they announced the invite-only in-game 10th-year anniversary celebration would be held at Times Square in person, and, more importantly, that fans who attended would be awarded a Mewtwo with perfect stats and a special background. The event was not open to the public; instead, influencers, content creators, and press were invited to celebrate one of the world’s biggest games, without allowing the fans who kept the game going for 10 years strong access. Now, Scopely is apparently aiming to make things right for fans who have not received a Mewtwo from that event.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pokémon GO, a special Timed Research will be available for trainers to complete, and upon completion, they will be guaranteed an encounter with the ‘hundo’ Mewtwo with the special background. Fans who have already obtained a special Mewtwo from the aforementioned invite-only event in July will receive a different Mewtwo (with imperfect stats) instead. Mewtwo caught from the Timed Research will also have the third Mega Level unlocked for Mega Mewtwo Y as a bonus.

Trainers need to act quickly, as the Timed Research will expire and players must complete the required Pokémon GO tasks to obtain Mewtwo. The Mewtwo Timed Research tasks must be completed and the rewards claimed by Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. local time. If the tasks are not completed and the rewards are not claimed before the deadline, the Timed Research will expire.
The tasks are straightforward, requiring players to catch 10 Pokémon and power up a Pokémon 10 times to claim the “hundo” Mewtwo.
