After Project Hail Mary’s stupendous success at the box office, there is now a brand new video game announced and written by Series Creator Andy Weir.
The game, named Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, is designed to be a mixed experience between VR and AR visuals. Developed by Maze Theory, the same people who made Doctor Who: The Edge of Time and Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, worked closely with Amazon MGM to develop the game. Andy Weir has written an entirely new chapter in the Hail Mary mission, where you play as Ryland Grace trying to prevent a catastrophe at a pivotal moment in the main story.

“Since creating Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more,” said Series Creator Andy Weir. “This is the first step outside of what happens in the book and movie that you can experience in mixed reality.”
Ryland Grace is tasked with the hefty job of preventing the complete failure of critical systems on the spaceship. They are helped along in this task by everyone’s favourite companion, Rocky, who will be an invaluable asset, helping the Hail Mary continue through a concoction of trust, cooperation, and ingenuity. Even though Rocky is technically a rock, he doesn’t feel like one in this game. When interacting with Rocky, for example, with a thumbs-up, they will do their best to respond as in the movie, which includes jazz hands and a fist bump or a “fist my bump,” as Rocky calls it.
In the trailer, we see a seamless blend of Altered Reality and Virtual Reality, with the room you’re in becoming the cockpit of the Hail Mary. Topped off by a workable joystick to control the orientation of the ship itself, and realistic zero gravity physics to be enjoyed. Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars is coming to MR and VR platforms and is set for a late 2026 release window.
