Netflix dropped 27 minutes of new information and footage of Grand Theft Auto VI.
With the wait finally almost over, Rockstar Games is showing off Grand Theft Auto VI. Netflix caught the brief exclusivity window, with the full footage also dropping on YouTube later today. What we saw here was substantial, especially with how secretive Rockstar has been leading up to launch. Grand Theft Auto VI is real, launching this November, and here’s everything you need to know from it’s unveiling.
The footage kicks off with our two new main characters, Lucia and Jason, walking towards a run-down building. They get stopped at the door, here to pick something up for someone named Boobie. The player controls Jason here, approaching another guy inside blocking an elevator. After a brief conversation, they head up together. A dog jumps up to say hi and they approach a door with an eye hole roughly cut into it. Inside they find Raymond, their contact for whatever pick up they’re here for. The crew inside is cooking plenty, when Raymond gets a call saying a task force is on route to check out their operation. Shots start to fly, the police infiltrating and taking out plenty of people in the hallway.
Raymond and Lucia drop behind cover and start shooting, taking down whoever is in their way. The action is explosive and everywhere. At one point, someone tackles a cop through the wall in front of them. One shot causes a slow down on the victim, showing them drop. The duo make it downstairs, taking refuge in an old lady’s apartment who’s all too unhappy about their arrival. They climb out her window, screen fades to black.
We get shots of Jason and Lucia stealing cars, joyriding, and moments between the two in their apartment. This focus on their relationship seems to be central to the experience, with small moments as they talk about their outfits for a night out. Jason sits to watch TV as Lucia gets ready, with satirical ads about medication, hunting, and others, like a burger that ONLY has 30,000 calories.
Lucia readies up and the two head to their car. The mini-map looks like actual map apps, guiding the way to their objective. The next compilation shows off plenty of action. Gun shots, fist fights, wrestling in a backyard, and old ladies trying to steal cars. It all looks beautiful, with Grand Theft Auto VI a clear jump forward in graphical fidelity, the lighting being a clear highlight.
We catch back up with Jason and Lucia at a rooftop party, talking to another couple. There are cuts here back to an arrest scene, where the two are interrogated by the cops. Back to the rooftop party, a job needs doing, and only one of them need to go. Lucia volunteers, promising to be back for dessert, while Jason starts chatting up the others. We flashback to a diner robbery, where Jason and Lucia steal a car on the way out. More thievery, this time at multiple convenience stores and gas stations, taking money and dealing with unhappy gun wielding cashiers.
The advice given to Jason back on the rooftop is to know when to stop, which I’m sure will play into bigger themes around the game. Back to Lucia, driving down the highway, seemingly at a different time. She picks up Jason, another character hops in the car having just robbed a bank, and the cops are on them. Lucia stays behind the wheel, Jason jumps back to shoot at the cop cars and helicopters chasing them. The cop cars flip and roll realistically as they go down, pieces flying off and shattering.
They hide in an alley to try and avoid the fuzz, and it works, for a time. When they get caught, players jump to controlling Lucia, weaving and driving through the streets. They park, ditch the car, and toss a molotov at it for good measure, before swapping to another van to try and make their escape. The mystery character heads out, promising to hit them back up for more jobs in the future.
Next, we cut across a number of other activities. Jason drives a hoverboat down a river, plays basketball, goes swimming and snorkeling, with plenty of fish around. Lucia works out, rides a jet ski, goes kayaking on the river. They go together to a strip club, go rally racing, toss monitors onto the highway, all culminating with robbing some shops. Lucia even runs into an influencer in a trunk, doing a “trunk challenge”…this feels too real. Shooting targets, racing dirt bikes, base jumping off buildings with a parachute – all while being able to switch between characters at will.
The next cutscene shows the two going to a fancy party, the job this time to protect a boisterous rich guy, Andres. They drive together at night, leaving an airport and heading downtown. There are multiple shots of rally racing at night, clubs with plenty of people dancing, before catching back up with Jason and company. They enter a huge and colourful hotel, with all of them heading upstairs. Jason goes to track down Andres who went off to work on his “creative process”.
He finds them doing other illicit substances in a conference room, with Andres expected downstairs to deliver a speech but very much not in the state to do so. We cut back to Lucia, as the celebration of the hotel opening is rudely interrupted by a whole lot of people with a whole lot of guns. Jason takes some of them down as he still has a gun, but Lucia had hers taken earlier. She sneaks around and gets into a fist fight with one of the assailants.
Jason goes after Andres, taken by the unknown assailants. He tracks him down and a massive shoot out erupts in an office building, glass and debris flying everywhere as shots ring out. Cut back to Lucia, who uses her high heel in creative ways to get an attacker off her, before she’s attacked and they both drop down an elevator shaft.
The ending narration talks about the glory days, with shots of the city, fishing, bars, and plenty more of the world at large. The voice says to enjoy the moments now, because you never know what’s on the horizon. Cut to title, with a final reminder that the footage was captured on PS5.
It was an impressive showcase that showed off a lot of actual gameplay, with plenty of action and different things you can spend your time doing. Thankfully, the wait to hit the streets of Leonida isn’t long, with Grand Theft Auto VI set to hit PS5 and XBOX Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
