Report: Microsoft Is Finalizing A Deal To Buy Obsidian

Microsoft is finishing up a deal to buy Obsidian Entertainment, a studio that developed games like Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas, Kotaku reported.

One of Kotaku’s sources informed them that, “they’d heard it was “90%” finished” and another one of their sources claimed, “It’s a matter of when, not if.”

“Unfortunately, we don’t comment on rumors or speculation other than to say that the Rumors album by Fleetwood Mac still holds up,” a spokesperson for Obsidian told Kotaku.

Obsidian Entertainment has its roots in Irvine, California. In 2003, former developers at Black Isle Studios created the company. Back then, Black Isle Studios was known for creating games like Fallout 2 and Icewind Dale.

With Microsoft, Obsidian Entertainment may be able to rely less on crowdfunding for their future projects. In the past, Pillars of Eternity was funded through Kickstarter and about $4 million was pledged by almost 74,000 backers.
