The first teaser trailer showed Zach Cregger’s insistence that this Resident Evil is more intimate; this second trailer unleashes workplace hazards galore and carnage.
Director Zach Cregger’s upcoming Resident Evil feature film felt like a more intimate affair (like Weapons), considering none of the legendary characters throughout CAPCOM’s legendary franchise have been shown on-screen. This means so far, there has been no mention of Resident Evil Requiem‘s Leon Kennedy, or the franchise heroes: Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.
While the existence of Cregger’s film has been confirmed with a previous small teaser, up to this point (like the original film of the same name starring Mila Jovovich), the actual details of the film don’t do a great job of bridging the gap between the new film and the games, aside from ‘run, zombies’. The latest trailer changes that, and it can be seen below.
The film follows Bryan (played by Austin Abrams, who also starred in Weapons), a medical courier trying to deliver to Raccoon City, only to find himself caught up in a night of terror. Last year at CinemaCon, Cregger labelled himself a Resident Evil fan and said he would like to channel the identity of the games in this new film.
Cregger explained, “There’s a moment that comes in almost every Resident Evil game where you find yourself in a dark passageway, your health is almost zero, and there’s no way around,” he added that this is the identity the Resident Evil franchise carries: a thrill ride “deeper into hell.” This ride into hell just confirmed the film’s setting: Raccoon City. The iconic location where the Umbrella Corporation’s negligent zombie outbreak began in the video games. The film has also confirmed there will be many, many casualties during its runtime, with streets filled with blood and carnage.
Austin Abrams is joined on screen by fellow castmates Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser. Now that the link between the games and the film has been established, all fans have to do now is wait it out until the film hits theatres. Resident Evil lands in theatres on September 18.
